Job Description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Employee Assistance Program Counselor to provide confidential counseling, assessment, referral, and wellness services supporting employees of a federal intelligence agency in Springfield, Virginia.

The EAP Counselor will assist employees with workplace and career concerns, emotional and mental health needs, relationship dynamics, work-life integration, and overall health and wellness. This position requires an experienced, compassionate professional who can assess individual needs, provide short-term counseling, identify potential substance-use concerns, and connect employees with appropriate treatment and community resources.

Position expected to start early 2027.

Location: Springfield, VA

This position is being recruited in support of potential future contract awards, and qualified candidates may be considered for upcoming opportunities supporting federal government clients.

Responsibilities
Provide confidential short-term counseling and consultation services to eligible employees
Counsel individuals regarding workplace and career concerns, emotional and mental health, relationship dynamics, work-life integration, and health and wellness
Conduct initial assessments to identify presenting concerns and determine appropriate services
Screen for substance-use disorders and other behavioral health concerns
Provide treatment referrals and connect employees with appropriate clinical or community resources
Offer crisis support and intervention within the scope of the Employee Assistance Program
Help employees develop practical strategies for managing stress, workplace challenges, interpersonal concerns, and personal transitions
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case documentation
Protect employee privacy and comply with all applicable ethical, contractual, and regulatory requirements
Coordinate with EAP leadership and authorized customer representatives while preserving appropriate clinical boundaries and confidentiality
Provide educational resources and wellness support based on workforce needs
Complete assigned tasks and deliverables in accordance with contract performance requirements
Maintain current professional licensure and complete required continuing education
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution
Active TS/SCI clearance with a current polygraph
Current, unrestricted state license as one of the following:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience
Experience providing counseling, behavioral health assessments, and treatment referrals
Knowledge of substance-use screening, mental health concerns, crisis response, and community resources
Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and maintain strict confidentiality
Strong interpersonal, communication, documentation, and case-management skills
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse professional and personal backgrounds
Ability to work full-time on-site in Springfield, Virginia

Desired Qualifications
Previous experience providing Employee Assistance Program services
Experience supporting federal government or Intelligence Community personnel
Training in crisis intervention, substance-use assessment, trauma-informed care, or workplace mental health
Familiarity with the challenges associated with high-security, high-stress, or mission-focused work environments
Experience delivering employee wellness briefings, workshops, or educational programs
