JHNA, CTSi, and EXPANSIA have come together to form a Defense Technology platform named Aether Aerospace focused on delivering high-impact technologies, technology-enabled services and advanced manufacturing solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense and related national security customers. Backed by Falfurrias Management Partners, the platform brings together deep domain expertise across Army, Navy, and Air Force and Space Force programs, digital engineering, systems integration, and specialized manufacturing capabilities.
The combined organization operates as a multi-entity aerospace and defense technology and tech-enabled services and manufacturing enterprise positioned for scalable growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.
OVERVIEW
Full-time/Permanent Employee
Location: Dayton, OH
We are seeking a Modeling and Simulation Engineer/Scientist II to support U.S. Air Force programs in Dayton, Ohio. In this role, you will develop and integrate high‑fidelity models using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) to evaluate air and space systems, electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, and mission‑level performance. Responsibilities include creating radio‑frequency (RF) sensor and antenna models, building algorithms and simulation components, and integrating these elements into engagement‑ and theater‑level AFSIM scenarios. You will work closely with Air Force stakeholders to support analysis, concept development, and acquisition decisions through physics‑based modeling, scenario development, and Monte Carlo simulation execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be responsible for development of RF sensor models, algorithms and associated simulation software for the above system types and will perform trade-space analysis to assess and verify system characteristics and capabilities
You will be responsible for the development of complex antenna element and array models, assessing and verifying antenna design and capabilities, and integrating these antenna models into larger complex system models, algorithms, and simulations
You will document all software and hardware characteristics and changes to existing and new simulation environments; test architecture design and test planning; experimental design and test execution; data collection and analysis; and report generation
You will integrate models into complex simulation architectures, including engagement-level simulations, theater-level simulations, hardware-in-the-loop architectures, and AFSIM-based mission-level simulation environments
You will support the development, testing, and refinement of subsystem and system models within AFSIM to enhance scenario fidelity and mission effectiveness evaluations
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Clearance: Active TS/SCI Clearance
Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Science, or Mathematics Physics discipline from an ABET-accredited university and 5+ years of engineering experience
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
Experience with electromagnetic simulation software
An understanding of RF sensor principles and capabilities, signal processing and analysis, as well as airborne radar, electronic warfare (EW) and electronic attack (EA) sensor principles
An understanding of basic antenna theory, types, characteristics, and design standards, as well as antenna element and array design and analysis, especially basic antenna pattern recognition and analysis
Candidate should have demonstrated abilities to solve difficult hardware and software integration challenges
The candidate must be a motivated self-starter who is able to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment, often with minimal guidance and within rigid timelines
The candidate must have the ability to interact with data suppliers, work well with coworkers and interface with customers, all at disparate locations
The candidate must have outstanding skills in communicating complex technical issues and in providing comprehensive written, oral and/or digital products (including document organization and technical writing)
The candidate must have good analytic skills and the ability to apply these skills in a multi-tasking environment where more than one project may require his/her participation at a given time (typically one primary project and one or two ancillary projects)
The candidate should have familiarity with contractor and government roles in applying intelligence analysis to aerospace system development and acquisition
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Professional training in modeling and simulation as related to space, missile, or aircraft system performance/dynamics
Strong antenna pattern recognition, and specific experience with the design and analysis of complex antenna elements and arrays, especially when it come to the interaction and interference within antenna systems
At least one additional programming/software development language (C, C++, Python)
Familiarity and specific experience with ECHO, CST, FEKO, HFSS, or another electromagnetic simulation software
Familiarity with TMAP
Familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the United States Intelligence Community (IC)
Experience developing mathematical models of aerospace vehicle dynamics, guidance navigation, and control components and algorithms
A basic understanding of system component integration and the ability to model entire systems or individual components, such as sensors, GNC, propulsion, aerodynamics, etc., to varying levels of detail
Hands-on experience applying subsystem or system models within AFSIM for scenario analysis or mission behavior modeling is highly desirable
