Job Description

Personal Care Assistant (PCA) - Behavioral Support

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistant (PCA) with strong behavioral support experience to provide one-on-one assistance to a student in a special education setting. The PCA will support the student's academic, behavioral, and daily living needs while helping create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized one-on-one support to a student throughout the school day.
  • Assist the student in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals.
  • Implement behavior support strategies and interventions as directed by the educational team.
  • Support students with varying communication abilities, including students who may be non-verbal.
  • Assist students during behavioral incidents, which may include verbal outbursts or physical behaviors.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including toileting and diapering as needed.
  • Help students access the curriculum through accommodations, modifications, and adapted materials.
  • Assist with mobility, transitions, and participation in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, therapists, and special education staff to support student success.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

Student Population
  • Preschool-aged students (approximately 3-5 years old).
  • Students receiving special education services with a variety of developmental, behavioral, and communication needs.
  • Responsibilities may include supporting students who require assistance with toileting and other daily living activities.

Schedule
  • Monday through Thursday
  • 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Year-round position

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Supervisor of Special Education and Building Principal.

Required Documentation & Clearances
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, and FBI Clearance (issued within one year)
  • Proof of qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification (Act 24)
  • Letter of Assurance verifying Act 168 Employment History Review completion
  • Proof of Act 126 Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training
  • Tuberculosis Test completed within the last 3 months
  • 10-Panel Drug Screen

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children receiving special education services
  • Strong behavior management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience providing personal care support is preferred
