Job Description
SMS is seeking an experienced AFCENT NOSC Lead Engineer to provide senior technical leadership, engineering oversight, and operational support for enterprise network and server-related services across the AFCENT mission environment. This role will guide engineering teams responsible for operating and integrating OS, Active Directory, messaging, DNS, storage, database, virtualization, boundary systems, patch management, and future enterprise services while analyzing network performance, identifying trends, and recommending solutions to improve reliability, security, and mission effectiveness. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in DoD network operations, information assurance tools, VPN and certification authority technologies, LAN/WAN enterprise support, systems engineering planning, documentation, briefings, training, and O&M support in both CONUS and OCONUS environments.
AFCENT's mission is to deliver combat-ready air, space, communications, and cyberspace capability for USCENTCOM, helping maintain security and stability throughout Southwest Asia. We support the AFCENT Commander, USCENTCOM, coalition and joint partners, and warfighters who rely on NIPRNet, SIPRNet, partner networks, and other command-and-control systems. The AFCENT NOSC program is focused on running and protecting a 24/7 enterprise network and systems operations, including cybersecurity, engineering, maintenance, and technical support, keeping the AFCENT's theater communications and IT infrastructure ready, secure, and available to effectively execute the AFCENT mission.

Job Responsibilities
- Support and integrate new and existing OS, AD, Messaging, DNS, Storage, DB and other server-related/future services.
- Provide technical direction and management oversight for Enterprise Database Administrator, Boundary Systems, Enterprise Patch Management Systems, Directory Services Systems, and Storage and Virtualization Systems engineering/technical staff.
- Analyze a wide array of networking metrics and recognize substandard network performance.
- Develop reports and trend analysis documentation on bandwidth and network security incidents.
- Make expert decisions and recommendations on how to resolve, improve, or prevent network problems/issues.
- Manage network intrusion devices specific to the Department of Defense as well as many commercial information assurance tools to include Certification Authority (CA) and a variety of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) both software and hardware.
- Develop and update IT systems concept of operations and engineering plans.
- Provide General IT Management support.
- Provide General Networking, LAN, WAN, enterprise support.
- Provide general O&M support as required.
- Provide documentation/reports support as required.
- Provide meetings/briefings support as required.
- Provide functional training support as required.
- Provide CONUS/OCONUS deployment/TDY travel support as required.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in related field, and 5 or more years' relevant IT experience (preferred) or 7 or more years' relevant IT experience.
- Firewall, Unix/Linux, and HBSS experience
- Knowledge of what constitutes a "threat" to a network.
- Skill in providing feedback to enhance future collection and analysis.
- Must possess experience and demonstrate an understanding with installation of Microsoft Windows Server in Host and Compute Environments, and Windows Server using server images.
- Experience with implementation of storage solutions, high availability, Domain Name Systems (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), network connectivity and remote access solutions, core and distributed network solutions, advance network infrastructure, and maintain and monitor server environments.
- Must possess experience and demonstrate an understanding with managing Microsoft users and permissions, creating active directory domain services (AD DS) forests, designing server infrastructure, troubleshooting, protecting network, and user data.
Certifications Required
- VCTA or VMWare experience
- CCNA or Network+
- ITIL Foundation (candidate has up to 60 days to acquire ITIL Foundation certification.)
