Position Summary
The Paraprofessional Classroom Assistant supports students by providing academic, behavioral, and personal‑care assistance under the direction of a teacher or case manager. This role helps implement individualized educational programs and ensures a safe, supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.

- Elementary: 8:45 AM - 3:45 PM
- Secondary (Middle/High): 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM
- Lunch: Unpaid 30‑minute break
Position Summary
The Paraprofessional Classroom Assistant supports students by providing academic, behavioral, and personal‑care assistance under the direction of a teacher or case manager. This role helps implement individualized educational programs and ensures a safe, supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Support - Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group instruction as directed, including cognitive, motor, feeding, self‑help, and behavioral skill development.
- Health & Safety Assistance - Maintain awareness of student needs and environmental risks to ensure safety.
- Personal Care - Assist with hygiene tasks such as handwashing, toileting, diapering, and clothing changes.
- Behavior Support - Monitor and reinforce appropriate behavior following established guidelines.
- Physical Assistance - Help students with positioning, lifting, mobility, and orthopedic equipment (e.g., braces).
- Mainstreaming Support - Prepare students for participation in general education settings.
- Collaboration - Work with teachers, case managers, specialists, and other staff to support student goals.
- Record Keeping - Assist with maintaining documentation related to student progress.
- Training Participation - Attend required in‑service sessions and medical or instructional training.
- Other Duties - Perform additional responsibilities consistent with the role.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of First Aid, CPR, and basic record‑keeping
- Ability to use correct English grammar, spelling, and vocabulary
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Required Clearances & Documentation
(All must be current within required timeframes)
- PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- PA Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
- FBI Fingerprinting (PA Dept. of Education)
- TB Test (within 3 months)
- Arrest/Conviction Report (Act 24)
- Proof of Education (Diploma or Official Transcripts)
- Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (Act 126 - valid for 5 years)
