Job Description

Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs and rebuilds the metal bodies and structural parts of vehicles and mobile equipment, uses tools and repair methods to keep equipment safe, functional, and ready for use.

Responsibilities

  • Performs new metal body construction, modification, repair, rebuild, and overhaul of body type work on a variety of wheel vehicles and various items of mobile equipment such as vans, shelters, containers and trailers used in missile/electronic systems.
  • Determines type of repair, modification, or fabrication using Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR), Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Maintenance Bulletins (MB), repair plans, Technical Manuals & Bulletins (TM & TB) and blueprints and/or diagrams.
  • Repairs and/or replaces vehicular frame, body structural members, surfaces, sub-surfaces, and gussets; applies body type modifications, shrinks stretched metal, and assures proper fit and adjustment.
  • Cuts and fabricates body panels from aluminum or steel.
  • Repairs metal and wood floors, walls and ceilings using a variety of material and fasteners such as wood, insulation, linoleum, epoxy, adhesive, rivets, bolts, inserts and sealant to secure and seal.
  • Repairs dent wrinkles, and creases in serviceable body panels using body filler, fiberglass and epoxy compounds.
  • Weatherproofs vehicles, shelters and van bodies using sealant, adhesives, rubber seals, and cork gaskets.
  • Test vans and shelters for ability to resist water infiltration by use of high-pressure water tests or manometer testing equipment.
  • Fits, sands, smoothes, and cleans repaired areas using grinders, sanders, porta powers, files and hand tools.
  • Replaces windshields, window assemblies and/or components.
  • This position will obtain a Forklift license upon request.

Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal
    training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these
  • Minimum Experience: 1 - 5 years.
  • Ability to receive Secret clearance.
