Job Description

Duties

  • Serves as the primary law enforcement instructor and training officer within the Police Services Division.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the law enforcement training program.
  • Prepare and present training courses in a variety of Law Enforcement subjects.
  • Interact with other professionals in the law enforcement field to gain information or materials to assist in preparation of courses for training program.
  • Identify training needs and performance trends by riding with other law enforcement officers.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from a DoD, Federal, National, or State-approved Field Training Officer Certification course or complete within one year of assignment.
  • Successfully pass training, certification, and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations, or statutes.
  • This position must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Tier 2 (Secret) security investigation.
  • The incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical/psychiatric evaluation.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug- Free Federal Workplace Program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) applying law enforcement procedures to instruct on Federal and local laws, traffic laws, established rules, regulations, and legal authorities; 2) preparing instructional methods and theories used in a Police Officer's training environment; and 3) instructing investigative procedures, techniques, and methods to resolve crimes and other incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) conducting training using a variety of instructional techniques on law enforcement subjects, such as basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, procedures, and techniques; 2) developing training courses and materials for local training as required; 3) providing Incident response support during emergencies; 4) preparing and maintaining law enforcement reports and records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
