Job Description

Paraprofessional - Autistic Support Classroom

Hours: 8:30 AM-4:00 PM (30‑minute unpaid lunch if not required to eat with students)

Location: Royersford, PA

Pay Rate: $21-$23/hr
Position Overview

This Paraprofessional provides direct support in an Autistic Support (AS) classroom, working with students who may need assistance with communication, behavior regulation, social skills, sensory needs, and structured academic instruction. The primary student is in 2nd grade.

Students may use AAC devices, PECS, visual schedules, prompting hierarchies, and individualized behavior plans. The paraprofessional collaborates closely with the classroom teacher and autism support team to maintain a consistent, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities - Autistic Support
Instructional & Academic Support
  • Implement discrete trial training, task analysis, and other autism‑specific instructional methods as directed.
  • Assist with visual supports (first-then boards, token systems, picture schedules).
  • Support students during academic centers, social skills groups, and structured teaching activities.
Communication Support
  • Model and prompt communication systems (AAC, PECS, sign, visuals).
  • Reinforce expressive and receptive language skills aligned with IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with speech‑language pathologists on carryover strategies.
Behavioral & Sensory Support
  • Follow behavior intervention plans consistently and safely.
  • Use sensory strategies such as movement breaks, calming tools, and sensory schedules.
  • Support students during dysregulation using proactive strategies and approved crisis‑intervention protocols.
Transition & Routine Support
  • Guide students through daily routines with clear visual and verbal prompts.
  • Support transitions between activities, specials, lunch, and recess.
  • Assist with functional independence goals (organization, self‑monitoring, etc.).


General Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers, BCBAs, therapists, and administrators.
  • Collect accurate data on behavioral and academic progress.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to district policies.
  • Support classroom management and help maintain a structured, positive environment.
  • Attend IEP meetings when requested.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support safe and effective classroom operations.


Qualifications
  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience with elementary‑aged students preferred.
  • Experience with autism or behavioral needs strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, and rapport‑building ability.
  • Ability to follow teacher direction and use basic computer systems.
  • Reliable transportation - car required.

  • Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting
  • Act 151 PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 34 PA Criminal History Report
  • Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Report
  • Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training
  • Current TB Test (within required timeframe)
