Position Overview:

Serves as a senior-level Subject Matter Expert supporting Air Combat Command, providing authoritative guidance on policies, programs, and operations. The SME applies deep mission knowledge and technical expertise to lead strategic initiatives, advise senior leadership, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities and objectives.

Position Description:
  • Provide senior-level leadership and subject matter expertise for Air Combat Command, advising senior leaders on policies, programs, operations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Define engagement strategies, objectives, scope, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and mission requirements.
  • Lead strategic, business, and action planning efforts; establish work standards and measurable project objectives.
  • Manage complex projects, coordinating multiple teams and resources, resolving process, technical, and stakeholder challenges, and ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Conduct process and systems analysis, develop competitive strategies, integrate solutions, and identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on project estimation, resource planning, and risk management to support mission execution.
  • Develop, review, and validate plans, briefings, correspondence, and other documentation for accuracy, compliance, and alignment with leadership intent.
  • Advise and assist clients and stakeholders in achieving desired program results, fostering sound analytical approaches, and suggesting alternatives when necessary.
  • Represent ACC in senior-level meetings, interagency forums, and cross-functional engagements, championing initiatives and leading mission-critical projects.

Responsibilities and/or Success Factors:

  • Expert Knowledge: Deep understanding of mission space, policies, and operational environments.
  • Leadership & Influence: Effectively guides teams and influences senior leaders without direct authority.
  • Communication Skills: Delivers clear, concise, and impactful briefings, correspondence, and recommendations.
  • Problem Solving: Analyzes complex issues and develops practical, mission-focused solutions.
  • Collaboration: Builds strong relationships across organizations to drive outcomes.
  • Execution & Accountability: Ensures tasks and initiatives are completed accurately and on time.
  • Adaptability: Operates effectively in dynamic, high-visibility environments.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains high standards in documentation, compliance, and deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications Including Certificates:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Public Administration, Management, Political Science, International Relations, or related discipline)
  • Master's degree preferred for senior-level roles (e.g., MBA, MPA, or equivalent)
  • Equivalent combination of education, military experience, and specialized training may be considered in lieu of a degree

Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Professional Military Education (PME) or equivalent DoW leadership training
  • Certifications in project or program management (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma)
  • Training in DoW correspondence, staffing processes, or policy development
  • Familiarity with Air Force or Joint Staff operations, particularly within Air Combat Command or Headquarters Air Force environments
