You’ll work with cutting-edge electro-optical systems and contribute to the development of control solutions for telescope research facilities ranging from 0.5m to 3.5m. Join a world-class, multidisciplinary team at Starfire Optical Range, known globally for pioneering optical and quantum research innovations.

Key Responsibilities
Develop high-fidelity mathematical models of dynamic systems (mechanical, electrical, and thermal) using first-principles physics and empirical techniques.
Analyze system behavior including stability, linearity, and transient/steady-state responses.
Design and implement advanced control strategies, including:
Classical (PID tuning, lead-lag compensation)
Modern (State-Space, Pole Placement, LQG/LTR)
Optimal, Robust (H∞, μ-synthesis), MPC, and Adaptive control methods
Develop multi-variable control strategies for complex, interconnected systems.
Use MATLAB/Simulink for control simulation, analysis, and rapid prototyping.
Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.
Optimize control parameters to achieve metrics such as accuracy, speed, energy efficiency, and disturbance rejection.
Collaborate with software and firmware engineers to deploy algorithms into embedded systems (C/C++, VHDL, RTOS, FPGA).
Support system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control issues.
Generate detailed technical documentation, including control system specifications, simulations, and validation reports.
Present findings and technical insights to multidisciplinary teams.
This position is 100% onsite and may require variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry (or equivalent).
4+ years of experience in designing, modeling, and implementing control algorithms for dynamic systems.
4+ years of experience with MATLAB/Simulink (Control System Toolbox, MPC Toolbox, Optimization Toolbox, Simscape, Stateflow).
3+ years of experience with C/C++ or Python for algorithm development or data analysis.
Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights and weekends.
