Personal Care Assistant
The Personal Care Assistant provides direct support to students with disabilities, focusing on both behavioral and academic development. This role involves working one-on-one with students to implement individualized educational programs as directed by their case manager. The Personal Care Assistant provides direct support to students with disabilities, focusing on both behavioral and academic development. This role involves working one-on-one with students to implement individualized educational programs as directed by their case manager. Responsibilities include assisting with instruction, supporting daily living activities, and ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support in areas such as cognitive development, motor skills, feeding, self-care, and behavior regulation under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Monitor and maintain a safe environment, especially for students with physical disabilities, by anticipating and mitigating potential hazards.
- Assist students with personal hygiene tasks including handwashing, toileting, diapering, and clothing changes.
- Observe and manage student behavior in alignment with established behavioral guidelines and intervention strategies.
- Support physical development activities in collaboration with specialists.
- Help prepare students for integration into general education classrooms following established procedures.
- Participate in required training sessions and professional development related to medical care and instructional support.
- Assist students with mobility needs, including the use of braces and orthopedic equipment, and support safe lifting and repositioning.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior in coordination with teaching staff.
- Collaborate with case managers, general education teachers, and other support personnel to ensure comprehensive student care.
- Facilitate positive social interactions among students and model appropriate behavior.
- Perform other related duties as assigned that support the educational and developmental needs of students.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children or individuals requiring caregiving support.
- Preferred experience in Autism Support, Special Education, Behavioral Health, or Mental Health.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification prior to start date.
