Personal Care Assistant (County Alternative)

Now Hiring: Personal Care Assistants

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:15 AM to 2:15 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch)
Age Group: High School students, including those up to age 21 receiving special education services
Position Overview

Seeking two dedicated Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to join the team. These roles support students with special needs by providing academic, behavioral, and personal care assistance in both inclusive and self-contained classroom settings.
Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years working as a PCA, Paraprofessional, or Paraeducator in a public, private, or educational school setting

Key Responsibilities

• Support students academically under the direction of teachers
• Assist with behavior intervention plans and emotional support
• Provide personal care including meals, hygiene, and mobility assistance
• Monitor and report student progress and behavior
• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with school staff
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment
• Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate cultural competence
• Respond to crises and assist in de-escalation when needed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Highly Qualified Paraprofessional status
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to follow teacher direction and work independently
• Reliable transportation (must have a car)
• Experience with students exhibiting behavioral challenges (preferred)
• Comfortable using computers regularly

Required Clearances & Certifications

Must be current or completed within the specified timeframes:

• PA Child Abuse Clearance (within 2 years)
• FBI Fingerprints & Criminal Background Check (within 2 years)
• PA Criminal History Check (within 2 years)
• TB Test (within 3 months; required within 30 days of start)
• Physical or documentation authorizing work (within 1 year; required within 30 days of start)
• Mandated Reporter Training (within 4-5 years)
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• Arrest/Conviction Report (Act 82)
• Completed Act 168 forms
