a.i. solutions is looking for a highly-motivated space mission engineer with a passion for aerospace. This person will work in a team environment as a space systems operations engineer for experimental satellite systems on the Prototype Operations-I (POPS-I) contract in support of U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command’s Innovation and Prototyping Delta at Kirtland AFB, NM. The successful candidate should possess significant knowledge of satellite systems, systems engineering, software scripting, gathering user requirements, cloud-based systems, creating innovative approaches to solve challenges in the space systems domain, and building strong customer relationships.  Ultimately, you will assist the space operations team to address customer and operator needs which lead to successful operation of critical prototype satellite systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission of always meeting customer requirements and striving to exceed their expectations. 

Essential Roles & Responsibilities: 

Possess an in-depth understanding of spacecraft systems and subsystems, procedures, and scripts, and be able to troubleshoot various technical issues without oversight 
Understand, modify, and automate ground operations SW scripts as needed 
Perform in-depth spacecraft subsystem and payload telemetry trending and analysis 
Develop, modify, update, and improve ground operations scripts, spacecraft tables, and spacecraft stored command sequences 
Develop and modify spacecraft subsystem and payload operations procedures 
Troubleshoot and resolve minor spacecraft anomalies, assist the customer for major anomalies, and develop/coordinate anomaly resolution plans and procedures 
Maintain spacecraft configurations and perform script, procedure, and spacecraft configuration management 
Assist in evaluating operator errors and associated root causes and corrective actions 
Gather, evaluate, and recommend user script needs in collaboration with space operations managers and program systems engineers 
Develop and maintain spacecraft training material for the mission operations team 
Assist with spacecraft and operational ground system testing 
Perform feasibility and vehicle safety analyses for spacecraft events and mission plans 
Determine appropriate commands/command blocks to perform off-nominal spacecraft operations and utilize a spacecraft simulator to reduce risk and validate approaches 
Provide briefings and updates to program leadership and the customer as required 
Typical 8-hour day shift expected, but may perform off-nominal hours assistance to space operations crews as required 
Act in an on-call capacity for critical ops events, which may occur at off-nominal hours 

Minimum Qualifications: 

U.S. citizenship  
Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI eligibility  
Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Space Systems), Software Development, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant field 
Experience in multiple script languages such as Python, Ruby, Perl, C# or other space operations related SW languages 
Proven work experience as a space mission engineer or similar role  

Desired Background: 

Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Space Systems focus preferred), Software Development, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant field 
3+ years of experience in the space operations environment 
Strong communication and teamwork experience
Knowledge of cloud-based design software such as AstroUX and COSMOS  
Ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values or opinions of others 
Proactivity in identifying and addressing challenges to include innovations that result in positive organizational impact

Salary ranges from $115,000 to $140,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
