The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) is seeking dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to join our team at the County Alternative High School. In this role, you'll provide essential support to students with special needs, helping them succeed both academically and personally.
Position Overview
As a PCA, you will work directly with high school-aged students (up to age 21) in a special education setting. The primary purpose of this position is to provide instructional, behavioral, and personal care support as outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). You will work closely with a teacher and other school staff to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Academic Support: Assist students with classroom tasks, reinforce instructional lessons, and help with modifying materials as needed.
- Implement Behavioral Plans: Follow behavior intervention plans, help students develop appropriate social skills, and assist with de-escalation during crises.
- Assist with Daily Living Activities: Provide physical support to students, including during meals, bathroom routines, and other activities.
- Maintain a Safe Environment: Help keep the classroom and facility organized, clean, and safe for all students.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Under the direction of a teacher, collect data on student progress and behavior.
- Collaborate with Staff: Work as part of a team, participating in meetings and collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other professionals.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working as a PCA, Paraprofessional, or Paraeducator in a public or private school setting is required. Experience with students with behavioral challenges is preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Skills: Strong communication skills (verbal and written), good judgment, flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work effectively with a computer.
- Transportation: Must have a reliable car for transportation to and from the facility.
Mandatory Clearances:
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance (within 2 years)
- FBI Criminal Background Check (within 2 years)
- PA Criminal History Check (within 2 years)
- TB Test (within 30 days of hire)
- Physical Examination (within 1 year of hire)
- Mandated Reporter Training Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form (Act 82)
- Completed Act 168 Form
