Located in Germantown, MD Project Enhancement Corporation (PEC) is a technical services business focused on providing Project Management and specialized technical services in the areas of nuclear safety, worker safety and health, security, quality assurance, environment as well as materials and facilities disposition within the DOE and commercial power industry.

Employment Position: Aviation Safety Specialist

Location: Albuquerque, NM

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), through its Office of Environment, Safety, and Health, manages Aviation Safety for the Department of Energy (DOE). Under direction of the NA-ESH Aviation Safety Officer (ASO), the Aviation Safety Specialist provides technical and administrative support to aviation safety activities. This position performs non-inherently governmental duties such as data analysis, documentation, and support for assessments and reviews as defined in DOE Order 440.2C, Aviation Safety Management . Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOE Q or equivalent clearance.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and trending aviation safety data for performance analysis.
  • Support preparation of Aviation Safety Documents (ASDs) and Aviation Safety Reviews (ASRs).
  • Participate in pre-assessment planning and post-assessment documentation.
  • Track and document corrective actions in collaboration with federal ASO.
  • Maintain hazard logs, safety metrics dashboards, and reporting schedules.
  • Prepare drafts of safety reports, presentations, and briefings for federal review.
  • Monitor aviation safety publications and assist in implementing DOE/FAA guidance updates.
  • Support preparation and submission of mishap reports through DOE systems (AAIRS/ORPS), as directed.
  • Contribute to safety awareness efforts including bulletins, posters, and award submissions.
  • Facilitating audits in accordance with DOE O 440.2C; including public aircraft operations, commercial aviation services (CAS) and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
  • Provide technical and oversight assistance for DOE and NNSA aviation programs through the development and promulgation of policy and procedures with DOE Headquarters staff, program offices and field elements.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in safety, aviation management, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in aviation, safety, or risk assessment roles.
  • Ability to obtain Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs ~OR~ have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Familiarity with FAA/DOE aviation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow federal direction.
  • Able to travel up to 10%.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers.
  • DOE site access will require the qualified candidate be a U.S. citizen with an ACTIVE DOE Q security clearance or DOD TS equivalent. The candidate's written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of maintaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
  • Certain positions requiring a security clearance may require the periodic successful completion of a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal substances will be conducted as a requirement for ongoing access to DOE sites. The candidate's written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the DOE/NNSA complex.
  • Knowledge of DOE/NNSA sites and types of operation.
