Shield Analysis Technology is seeking a qualified Technical Writer to provide high-level support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Nuclear Enterprise Directorate, Nuclear Logistics and Operations Department (NE-NL). This position will primarily support the Logistics & Maintenance Division, Maintenance Branch (NE-NLMM) in managing and maintaining nuclear stockpile-related data, materials information, and technical publications. The selected candidate will serve as a trusted agent to DTRA, delivering accurate and timely content that supports mission-critical operations and ensures compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DOE) policies.
6+ years of relevant experience with a BA/BS degree, or
8+ years of demonstrated experience with a high school diploma
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical writing, editing, and publication support for the Joint Nuclear Weapons Publications System (JNWPS), ensuring compliance with DTRA policies and applicable style guides.
Support the DoD Executive Agent for the Limited Life Component (LLC) Management Program, including technical documentation for LLC definitions and alternation (Alt) kit configurations.
Develop, review, and recommend updates to nuclear weapons maintenance policies, procedures, and technical guidance in collaboration with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, DTRA, Military Services, and Combatant Commands.
Prepare time-critical technical procedures that address emergent safety, reliability, or operational concerns.
Assist in shaping DoD positions on LLC program management and related supply chain matters.
Support weapons maintenance managers with pre-production planning, evaluation, and rollout of LLCs, containers, and equipment.
Independently provide backup support for Department Maintenance Support Managers as needed.
Review, interpret, and integrate high-level DoD and DOE directives into JNWPS publications and technical documents.
Create and manage fiscal-year-based LLC utilization schedules and evaluate expiration dates of nuclear weapons in DoD custody.
Generate monthly LLC distribution plans for DTRA, the Federal LLC Manager, and NNSA NA-122.1.
Process and evaluate LLC schedule change requests submitted by Military Services or NNSA.
Provide policy interpretation and ensure adherence to DoD guidance for LLC management.
Support the Nuclear Transportation Working Group (NTWG) Executive Secretary, including planning and facilitating semi-annual meetings, agendas, and action tracking.
Coordinate with the Office of Secure Transportation (OST) and Military Services to manage air and ground transportation of LLCs, nuclear weapons, and Other Major Assemblies (OMAs).
Review and support updates to nuclear weapon systems, maintenance support equipment, test tools, and handling procedures.
Contribute to the JNWPS policy development process by drafting, coordinating, and disseminating approved technical policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Demonstrated experience supporting DTRA or DARPA programs.
Deep understanding of nuclear weapons maintenance operations and LLC management processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply DoD and DOE regulations.
Proficiency in drafting time-sensitive, technically complex procedures.
Experience engaging with OST mission planners and Military Services on logistics and transportation coordination.
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and provide reliable back-up support to senior maintenance managers.
