About CISA
CISA is the operational lead for federal cybersecurity and the national coordinator for critical infrastructure security and resilience. Our mission expands across three primary areas: cybersecurity, infrastructure security, and emergency communications. CISA was designed to be more akin to a public/private partnership- not another government bureaucracy. You can read more about our culture and core principles below, but, at our core, CISA is fundamentally a place where you can be yourself.

Just One Word: Culture
Director Jen Easterly talks about CISA culture and the vital importance of workforce culture on performance.
CISA Core Principle
People First
At CISA, our people are our most important and effective asset, so we strive to put our people first. Attracting and retaining world-class talent requires creating an environment of PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY, where people can be their authentic self; where they feel cared for, supported, empowered, and always treated with dignity and respect. The goal is not about becoming a star – it’s about building a constellation.
CISA Core Principle
Do the Right Thing. Always.
We take our responsibilities seriously at CISA and always strive to do the right thing, no matter how difficult it may be. Due to the nature of our mission, what we do or don't do can be life or death, and we don't take that lightly. Trust is the bedrock of any great team, but it can be easily destroyed by a lie or a failure to take responsibility for our words or our actions. Integrity and character matter at CISA, and we work hard every day to build and retain the public's trust.
CISA Core Principle
Lead with Empathy
While many of us deal with computers all day, we never forget that we're also working with human beings with feelings. A little compassion can go a long way. At CISA, we lead by the “PLATINUM RULE:” TREATING OTHERS AS THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED... which means really getting to know and understand one another. We imagine ourselves in the shoes of our teammates and always treat them with respect and kindness. We strive to be the teammate we want to work with and cultivate the talents of everyone around us.
CISA Core Principle
Communicate Transparently and Effectively
Cybersecurity and infrastructure security are the work of many groups at the federal, state, and local levels, so collaboration and effective communication are key to our work at CISA. Our organization operates in a matrixed structure, with teams across the country, requiring constant communications to ensure we're on the same page and acting as one cohesive unit. We know that what and how we communicate matters, so we work to be transparent with the public and keep them informed at all times.
