About CODEplus
CODE Plus, Inc. (CODEplus) is an established technology company headquartered in Fairfax, VA, with additional offices in Huntsville, AL. For more than three decades we have delivered high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions to federal clients. We value teamwork, innovation, integrity, and technical excellence, and we focus on building collaborative partnerships that produce reliable results.
Position Overview
CODEplus is looking for a creative, detail-oriented 3D Artist / Technical 3D Artist to support the development of interactive 3D training and simulation applications.
You will work closely with Unity developers, instructional designers, and subject-matter experts to create realistic, optimized 3D models, textures, animations, and visual assets. The role centers on 3D asset creation, modeling, texturing, animation, and real-time optimization. The ideal candidate understands real-time 3D pipelines and can produce clean, efficient assets that integrate smoothly into Unity-based applications.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop high-quality 3D models of equipment, vehicles, tools, machinery, and environments.
• Create both high-polygon and optimized low-polygon assets suitable for real-time applications.
• Develop clean UV layouts, textures, materials, and texture atlases using industry-standard tools.
• Apply physically based rendering (PBR) workflows to produce realistic, production-ready materials.
• Create basic animations and simple rigs for mechanical components and interactive elements.
• Collaborate with Unity developers to prepare and integrate models, textures, materials, and animations.
• Work with subject-matter experts and instructional designers to translate reference materials and technical requirements into accurate 3D assets.
• Support testing, iteration, and optimization of visual assets for quality, accuracy, and performance.
Required Qualifications
• Experience as a 3D Artist, 3D Modeler, Game Artist, or similar role (entry to mid-level).
• Strong proficiency in Blender, 3ds Max, or Maya.
• Experience with PBR workflows and tools such as Substance Painter or Blender.
• Demonstrated ability to create optimized 3D models, textures, and materials for real-time engines.
• Familiarity with Unity, including asset preparation, import settings, and basic integration.
• Solid knowledge of UV mapping, low-poly modeling, retopology, and texture atlases.
• Understanding of real-time constraints: polygon budgets, LODs, lighting considerations, and basic animation.
• Ability to work from technical drawings, photographs, and reference materials to produce accurate models.
• Strong artistic eye, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively with developers and technical stakeholders.
• Portfolio that demonstrates relevant 3D modeling, texturing, and real-time asset work.
• U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience creating 3D assets for training, simulation, or educational applications.
• Experience with mechanical animation, equipment visualization, or technical/hard-surface modeling.
• Familiarity with Unity’s material, lighting, shader, and animation systems.
• Understanding of Unity asset pipelines and collaboration with technical/programming team members.
Ideal Candidate
You combine solid artistic skills with a practical understanding of real-time 3D development. You are comfortable working alongside software developers, creating technically accurate models, and optimizing visual assets so they perform well in interactive Unity applications.
