$150,000 - $235,000
Job Description
OpenShift Technical Expert
Location: Charlottesville, VA
Work Type: Full-Time / Hybrid
Remote Work: Yes, remote 2 days per week
Job Description
We need an experienced OpenShift/OKD installation engineer to help deploy OpenShift on a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster with multi-GPU nodes, high-speed networking (10GbE + InfiniBand), and air-gapped operational requirements. The environment includes AMI MegaRAC BMCs with known limitations for HTTPS remote media mounting, so expertise with alternative installation methods is essential (Agent-Based Installer or UPI).
We need help installing and validating OpenShift/OKD on our HPC hardware using non-IPI methods and preparing the environment for downstream operations.
Responsibilities
Installer Strategy & Execution: Implement OpenShift/OKD using Agent-Based Installer or User-Provisioned Infrastructure (UPI). Create per-node bootable ISOs and support manual mounting (USB or IPMI). Assist with CoreOS installation across nodes in a disconnected/offline environment.
Cluster Bring-Up: Validate bootstrap process, approve CSRs, and confirm control-plane/worker readiness. Ensure networking paths (10GbE, InfiniBand) support HPC workloads.
GPU & Storage Integration (Day?2 Prep): Install/configure NVIDIA A100 GPU drivers (CUDA/MIG). Support BeeGFS driver preparation/integration for HPC file systems. Validate GPU visibility and scheduling within OpenShift.
Air-Gapped Operational Requirements: Prepare offline installation artifacts (images, drivers, scripts, documentation). Help create a repeatable installation kit for redeployment in an isolated environment.
Cluster Hardening & Readiness (Optional): Provide guidance on STIG/ACAS/SCAP compliance. Document admin workflows, backup strategies, and shutdown/restart procedures.
Qualifications
Deep experience with OpenShift 4.x, OKD, CoreOS, and bare-metal installations.
Familiarity with HPC hardware, GPU-accelerated nodes, and distributed storage.
Proven success installing OpenShift without IPI (e.g., MegaRAC or similar BMC limitations).
Ability to work within disconnected/offline environments.
Strong documentation and collaboration skills.
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI CI Poly clearance is required.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $150,000 - $235,000 (Compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, skills, education, certifications, seniority, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.)
Benefits: Gridiron offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), disability & ADD insurance, life and pet insurance to eligible employees. Full-time and part-time employees working at least 30 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in Gridiron’s benefits programs.
