About Neuma Consulting
At Neuma Consulting LLC, we believe that inspired lives produce inspired solutions. As a minority-owned, mission-driven government consulting firm based in Northern Virginia, we partner with defense and intelligence agencies to revolutionize how intelligence is produced, visualized, disseminated, and consumed.
We are intentional about building an environment where talented people can do their best work—professionally and personally—while delivering high-impact solutions to some of the nation’s most critical missions.
Our Values
Our values shape how we work, how we lead, and how we serve our customers and teammates:
• Relational Integrity – We operate with honesty, trust, and respect in every interaction.
• Collective Ingenuity – We believe the best solutions emerge from collaboration and diverse perspectives.
• Intentional Stewardship – We thoughtfully manage our time, talent, and resources to deliver lasting value.
• Creative Rest – We recognize that balance and rest are essential to sustained creativity and performance.
• Transforming Generosity – We go beyond expectations for our teammates, our customers, and our community.
• Fun! – We take pride in our work and believe enjoying the journey matters.
The Opportunity
Neuma Consulting is seeking Junior and Mid-Level Graphic Designers to support the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). This role is part of a recently awarded 5-year contract, offering long-term stability and the opportunity to shape how finished intelligence is presented to senior defense and national decision-makers.
In this position, you will work side by side with intelligence analysts, turning complex analytic assessments into clear, compelling visual products. This is a design-focused role: your work will center on graphics, layout, cartography, and multimedia content, and it does not include software or web development.
The Challenge
As a designer, your work will sit at the point where analysis meets its audience. Every illustration, map, layout, and video segment you create shapes how quickly and accurately a reader grasps an analytic judgment.
This is not a production-only role—it’s an opportunity to partner directly with analysts and help shape how their thinking is conveyed. You’ll balance creative craft with precision, ensuring every product meets IC published standards (including the D3 Style Guide) and classification requirements for high-visibility finished intelligence.
What You’ll Do
• Collaborate with analysts to understand requirements and enhance and convey analytic thoughts and assessments through graphic and layout solutions
• Provide graphic design and layout solutions for intelligence products, including:
- Developing original illustrations and infographics
- Editing and enhancing existing images
- Font management
- Advanced pre-publication techniques
• Produce graphic design, cartographic products, interactive graphical content, video content, analytic product templates, and marketing content using Government-specified technology
• Integrate graphics with text, audio, and video to support interactive and multimedia high-visibility finished intelligence products
• Produce dynamic content, including podcasts and audio segments, in accordance with IC published standards (e.g., D3 Style Guide)
• Provide user experience / user interface (UX/UI) design expertise, such as wireframes, mockups, and visual design, for interactive graphics and web products
• Apply IC and DoD classification guidelines and procedures to all products
• Deliver accurate, polished products on deadline in a fast-paced mission environment
What You Bring
• Active TS/SCI clearance (CI Polygraph preferred)
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Animate (formerly Flash)
• Proficiency with Apple Final Cut Pro X and Apple Mac hardware platforms
• Experience with MAPublisher or similar cartographic tools
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Knowledge of IC and DoD classification guidelines and procedures, and the ability to apply them
• Ability to interpret analysis, including its meaning, importance, and implications, and convey it visually
• Ability to evaluate and synthesize information from multiple sources, recognize nuances, and resolve inconsistencies in source material
• Ability to organize and maintain information within security and data protocols
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with strong grammar and attention to detail
• Portfolio of unclassified work demonstrating graphic design, layout, and multimedia skills
Junior Graphic Designer
• 3 + years of graphic design experience relevant to the role, with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. An additional 4 years of experience (7 years total) may be substituted for a degree
• Working knowledge of the design, layout, and production functions described above
• Ability to work semi-independently with oversight and direction
• Familiarity with intelligence collection capabilities and analytic methods, such as structured analytic techniques, and how they shape finished products
Mid-Level Graphic Designer
Meets all qualifications of a Junior, plus:
• 8 + years of graphic design experience relevant to the role, with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
• Comprehensive mission knowledge, including completion of all developmental training and experiences for the role
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and direction
• Ability to turn incomplete, indirect, highly complex, or technically advanced information into clear, concise visual products
• Experience collaborating with other IC members on information sharing and resolving differing perspectives on product direction
• Ability to develop concise, insightful, and comprehensive products for defense intelligence
• Ability to lead design teams on multifaceted or critical projects and guide others in selecting and applying design approaches
