Job Description
acuCyber is seeking a Technical Writer to develop and maintain documentation supporting cybersecurity, software development, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise core services. This role will work closely with Government stakeholders and technical teams to turn complex engineering information into clear, accurate materials for developers, administrators, operators, and program leadership.
We are looking for someone who can understand technical concepts, ask focused questions, and organize information around the needs of the reader. Strong candidates will be comfortable working from engineering discussions, demonstrations, design documents, and existing technical materials to produce documentation that remains useful as systems evolve.
This is a full-time, on-site role at a Government facility in Charleston, SC or the National Capital Region (NCR).
What You'll Do:
• Create, edit, and review technical materials supporting system development, integration, deployment, operation, and maintenance.
• Work with engineers and subject matter experts to document system capabilities, configurations, interfaces, dependencies, and operational procedures.
• Develop and maintain administration guides, operational user guides, installation instructions, troubleshooting procedures, and training materials.
• Support preparation of software development plans, implementation plans, architecture descriptions, and technical reports.
• Document continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows, deployment configurations, and DevSecOps processes.
• Edit and organize cybersecurity documentation, security testing reports, and authorization package materials in coordination with security personnel.
• Develop diagrams, tables, process descriptions, and other supporting content that explain technical relationships and procedures.
• Review documentation for technical consistency, completeness, readability, and alignment with approved system configurations.
• Coordinate technical reviews, consolidate comments, resolve discrepancies with content owners, and track documents through approval.
• Maintain document templates, terminology, acronym definitions, revision histories, and version-controlled documentation.
• Support preparation and review of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables.
• Apply appropriate classification markings and handling requirements in coordination with authorized Government and security personnel.
• Update documentation as software releases, infrastructure changes, and operational lessons alter system behavior or procedures.
Required Skills
• Bachelor's degree
• Ten years of professional experience creating, editing, and reviewing technical materials.
• Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with ability to obtain a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph.
• Experience developing technical documentation for software, information technology, cybersecurity, or systems engineering efforts.
• Ability to gather information through interviews, technical discussions, demonstrations, and review of source materials.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and tailor content to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Experience developing procedural documentation, technical reports, user guides, or system administration materials.
• Experience coordinating document reviews and incorporating feedback from multiple technical contributors.
• Strong editing and proofreading skills, including attention to terminology, acronyms, references, formatting, and document consistency.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, including styles, templates, tables of contents, cross-references, and tracked changes.
• Experience maintaining document versions and organized technical repositories.
• Ability to manage concurrent assignments and meet deliverable deadlines.
• Understanding of documentation handling requirements in classified environments.
Desired Skills
• Master's degree
• Government technical programs: Experience supporting Department of Defense, Navy, or Intelligence Community documentation efforts.
• Cybersecurity documentation: Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF), system authorization documentation, security controls, and assessment reports.
• Software and DevSecOps: Experience documenting development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, application interfaces, release procedures, and automated testing.
• Cloud and container platforms: Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and infrastructure as code.
• Identity and security services: Familiarity with Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and enterprise access controls.
• Architecture and diagrams: Experience developing system diagrams, data flow diagrams, and process illustrations using Microsoft Visio or comparable tools.
• Documentation workflows: Experience with Git, Markdown, Microsoft SharePoint, or other collaborative authoring and review platforms.
• Training materials: Experience developing instructional guides, job aids, and materials supporting system adoption and operational handover.
• Contract deliverables: Experience preparing documentation against Government data item descriptions, templates, and acceptance criteria.
