Total compensation: $264,000–$289,000 (base salary plus employer 401(k) contributions).
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Sr. Software Engineer to lead development of complex mission software, from processing-heavy analytics and novel algorithms to real-time systems and extremely large data sets. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. Along with writing and reviewing code, the engineer selects the development process alongside the customer and systems engineering, owns software quality, and directs work across multiple development teams.
Key responsibilities:
Software design and development:
- Turn user requirements into software design and performance requirements.
- Design and code new software, and extend existing systems with new features.
- Build algorithms that meet or exceed performance and functional targets, including those with tight timing, resource, or interface constraints.
- Design and implement complex database and data repository interfaces and queries.
- Use scientific analysis and mathematical modeling to predict and measure the outcomes of design choices.
-Integrate existing software into new or changed systems and operating environments.
Sustainment and quality:
- Debug software, correct defects, and adapt code for new hardware or better performance.
- Help develop and run test procedures for software components.
- Write and review software and system documentation.
- Own quality control for all new and modified software and for team deliverables.
- Coordinate software installation and monitor systems to confirm they meet operational specifications.
Technical leadership:
- Serve as technical lead across multiple software development teams.
- Choose the development process in partnership with the customer and systems engineering.
- Assign programming and testing work across teams and track performance.
- Keep team output within the constraints of the program's development process.
- Recommend new technologies and process improvements for complex projects, and put documentation
and process improvements into practice.
- Work with systems and hardware engineers to define software requirements, interfaces, limitations, and
performance needs.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer who has led multiple teams on large mission programs and still
enjoys solving hard technical problems firsthand.
Required:
- 20+ years of software engineering on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Four additional years of software engineering on
projects with similar development processes may substitute for the degree.
- TS/SCI with a current Full Scope Polygraph at the time of application.
