Job Description
• Company: Northrop Grumman
• Position: SE&V System Engineer
• Location: Onsite at 9975 Federal Drive in CO Springs or 1200 Redstone Gateway in Huntsville, AL
• Duration: long term, ongoing contract – we are a direct sub to the C2BMC program
• Clearance: Secret, will hold TS if you already have it
• Program – C2BMC
"Position Responsibilities
Lead & mentor a Regional SE Team Lead and mentor the regional SE team engineers while continuing to execute core engineering tasks— verification. Direct a team of ~30 junior and senior systems engineers, set priorities, create capability concepts, and conduct technical reviews. Remain “hands on” by actively producing and reviewing key engineering artifacts. Model-Based Requirements Decomposition: Lead the systematic breakdown of high-level needs into traceable, hierarchical requirements linked directly to architectural elements. Capture high-level operational needs (warfighter, operator, and stakeholder intents) in a model-based repository (e.g., DOORS, Next, Jama Connect). Perform functional breakdown using SysML Use Case and Activity diagrams to identify system-level functions, subfunctions, and allocated capabilities. Decompose functional requirements into hierarchical, traceable low-level system and interface requirements; link each low-level requirement to the originating stakeholder need and to the relevant architectural element. Maintain bidirectional traceability (needs: functional requirements, logical, physical requirements & verification) throughout the product lifecycle; automatically surface impact of changes via model queries. Facilitate requirement workshops with customers and subject matter experts to validate decomposed requirements and capture acceptance criteria. Architecture Development & Management: Lead the SE teams for creation, validation, and maintenance of a robust, model-based system architecture that supports regional C2BMC functional and performance objectives. Develop a coherent system architecture (logical and physical) using SysML Block Definition Diagrams (BDD), Internal Block Diagrams (IBD), and parametric diagrams when necessary. Define subsystem boundaries, interfaces, and data flows that support regional C2BMC functions such as sensor management, cueing, tasking, and discrimination. Create architecture viewpoints (operational, systems, services, allocation, behavior) aligned with DoDAF and UAF standards to communicate design intent to diverse audiences. Perform architecture trade studies (e.g., performance, cost, risk, survivability) in the model environment; generate quantitative results (e.g., timing, bandwidth, processing load) that feed back into requirement refinement. Validate architectural compliance with C2BMC operational concepts and regional constraints (latency, bandwidth, threat environment) using model-based simulation and analysis tools (MATLAB/Simulink, STK, or built-in SysML simulation). Model-Based Analyses & Verification: Lead team to conduct trade studies and reliability assessments directly from the model. Work closely with the Integration and Test team to generate model-derived test cases; automate verification of requirement satisfaction against the model. Analyze test results, update models to reflect observed behavior, and close the verification loop. Interface Control & Management: Lead the team to produce and maintain authoritative Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Requirement Specifications (IRS) derived from the architectural model. Ensure any interface change is reflected instantly across all linked requirements and design elements, reducing configuration drift. Stakeholder Representation & Communication: Embed warfighter/operator viewpoints into the model; verify that operational intent is preserved throughout design, integration, and testing. Work directly with customers to derive requirements, architecture, and interfaces from their capability inputs. Prepare and deliver technical briefings, architecture overviews, and requirement traceability matrices to senior leadership, program management, and external customers. Process & Tool Integration: Integrate MBSE tools with configuration management (Git, SVN) and requirements management systems to enforce a single source of truth. Champion Model Driven Development & Test processes, ensuring that models drive code generation, simulation, and verification activities.
Basic Qualifications
Generally has 8+ years of related experience and may have a postsecondary degree or training in a related discipline. Extensive systems engineering background with hands-on MBSE experience (SysML/UML modeling, requirement decomposition, architecture development) in a missile defense or comparable high complexity domain. Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams while remaining actively involved in technical work. Strong track record of delivering decomposed, traceable requirements linked to a validated system architecture for large-scale defense programs. Experience with regional C2BMC implementations (sensor management, tasking, cueing, discrimination) and an understanding of BMDS operational constraints. Proven ability to work directly with multiple customer and contractor organizations (government, DoD, industry).Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to translate model-based analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leaders and operators. Occasional travel may be required—final SECRET clearance (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
MBSE Tools: Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, or equivalent. Requirements Management: DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama Connect, Polarion – with strong emphasis on requirement-to-model linking. Architecture Modeling: SysML BDD, IBD, Parametric diagrams; familiarity with DoDAF and UAF views. Analysis & Simulation: Ability to run model-based performance, timing, and reliability simulations (MATLAB/Simulink, STK, built-in SysML simulation).Verification & Test: Experience generating model-derived test cases and executing SIL/HIL test campaigns. Integrated Team Collaboration: Comfortable working with software, hardware, network, and cyber engineers to co-develop model-based solutions. Process Knowledge: MDNT, Agile/Iterative SE, DoD MBSE guidelines. Leadership & Communication: Capability to define, delegate, and review work while maintaining technical depth; convey complex model information to non-technical audiences.
Other MBSE certification is a plus."
