Duties

  • Serves as the senior Defense Economics strategist responsible for integrating commercial, financial, and economic considerations into the Command Theater Strategy, Theater Campaign Plan, and national-level defense guidance documents.
  • Directs comprehensive research and analysis of adversary economic activities, predatory lending, illicit financial networks, and supply chain vulnerabilities to evaluate strategic risks within the command's area of responsibility.
  • Leads and orchestrates cross-functional working groups across command headquarters, component staffs, U.S. interagency partners, and the private sector to synchronize theater defense economics initiatives.
  • Manages and directs the development of Operations, Activities, and Investments (OAI) and specialized analytic products while overseeing processes for commercial partnerships and capital mobilization efforts.
  • Delivers executive briefings and develops background materials on defense economics, economic statecraft, and strategic competition for congressional delegations, senior military leaders, and international partners.

  • Drug Test – The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Must maintain no-fee passport and Visa, obtain any vaccinations and pertinent immunizations, and complete any pre-employment screening for country entry.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Country/Theater Clearance per the Foreign Clearance Guide located at https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil/fcg.cfm.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.

TERM APPOINTMENT: Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 2 Years. Cannot be made permanent.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) analyzing commercial, financial, or economic data to identify strategic risks and inform operational or organizational strategy; 2) developing, drafting, or coordinating long-term strategy, policy documents, or executive-level briefing materials related to national security or defense issues; AND 3) leading or participating in interagency or multi-stakeholder working groups to synchronize programs, initiatives, or strategic plans.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
