Position Type: Full Time, Contract to Hire
Duration: 12 Month
Location: Palm Bay, FL
As a Mechanical Engineering Sr Spec – Thermal Analyst you will:
Job Description:
• Support the thermal design, analysis, integration, and testing of optical and spacecraft systems operating in demanding space and ground environments. This position will provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform system and payload-level thermal design and analysis for spacecraft hardware, structures, mechanisms, and electronics.
• Develop and evaluate thermal models using Thermal Desktop, FEA, and related analysis tools.
• Perform conductive, convective, and radiative heat-transfer analyses and support thermal-control hardware design.
• Support requirements development/verification, trade studies, design optimization, risk mitigation, and system architecture.
• Develop thermal test plans and support payload integration and testing.
• Lead or coordinate thermal analysis activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Prepare technical reports, analysis documentation, presentations, and deliverable data packages.
• Present technical results at PDRs, CDRs, TIMs, and customer/program reviews.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and Structural, Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and other engineering teams.
• Mentor other Thermal Analysts and support new business opportunities.
• Manage multiple engineering priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong knowledge of aerospace thermal engineering and spacecraft/payload architectures.
• Experience with spacecraft thermal design, analysis, integration, and testing.
• Proficiency with Thermal Desktop, FEA, and thermal-analysis methodologies.
• Knowledge of heat pipes, radiative heat transfer, thermal blankets, surface treatments, heaters, and thermistors.
• Strong technical leadership, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have: TS/SCI clearance
Required Skills & Qualifications
• 9+ years with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree required or 7+ years of experience with a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree.
• 7+ years of professional experience using thermal analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop (preferred), Sinda, Flotherm, Icepak, etc.
• 5+ years of professional experience leading a multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team through system requirements, design, analysis, test, hardware build, delivery and launch
• Professional experience with thermal analysis of mechanical and electronic systems, in space, air or ground environments.
• Professional experience with thermal vacuum testing.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
• Experience with finite element analysis software.
• Able to support design decisions with well documented engineering analyses and calculations.
• Able to analyze problems and to focus and drive down to the root cause of problems quickly.
• Experience in leading engineering teams from conceptual through detailed design phases
• Experience as a lead engineer, project engineer, or IPT lead is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
