Job Overview
The Sr. System Administrator is a senior technical position responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, security, and continuous improvement of Chugach Government Solutions (CGS) enterprise information technology infrastructure supporting the Tidewater region and remote sites. This position is responsible for the availability, performance, security, and resiliency of servers, networks, virtualization platforms, endpoints, security appliances, communications systems, and other enterprise infrastructure. The Sr. System Administrator provides advanced technical support, performs system and network troubleshooting, leads root-cause analysis, implements corrective actions, and recommends infrastructure improvements to maintain a secure and reliable operating environment. The position also supports CGS Information Assurance (IA) and cybersecurity requirements, including monitoring, documentation, vulnerability management, system hardening, security controls, incident response, and evidence collection in support of applicable contractual and regulatory requirements, including DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171.The Sr. System Administrator works closely with management, corporate and division IT personnel, cybersecurity personnel, users, external partners, consultants, agencies, and vendors to resolve complex technical issues and develop, implement, and maintain effective infrastructure and security solutions. The position requires strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Windows client operating systems, Active Directory, Hyper-V virtualization, enterprise networking, firewalls, endpoint security, vulnerability management, logging and monitoring, identity and access management, and related enterprise technologies.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot CGS servers, networks, virtualization platforms, security appliances, endpoints, and supporting infrastructure.
- Provide advanced server, network, and systems administration support in a mission-critical environment.
- Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support and serve as an escalation point for complex infrastructure and user issues.
- Configure, provision, deploy, and maintain systems and network equipment in support of CGS operations.
- Analyze complex technical issues across the enterprise and determine the appropriate course of action for resolution.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions to prevent recurring incidents.
- Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and security and take proactive action to identify and resolve potential issues.
- Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related infrastructure.
- Administer and maintain Hyper-V and other virtualization technologies.
- Configure and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, VPN technologies, and related network security appliances.
- Maintain enterprise certificates, encryption technologies, and certificate services to ensure systems and applications remain operational and secure.
- Support identity and access management, including account administration, privileged access, service accounts, Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA), and access-control technologies.
- Support vulnerability management, security scanning, system hardening, patch management, endpoint security, and remediation activities.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of security controls required by applicable CGS policies, contracts, DFARS requirements, and NIST SP 800-171.
- Monitor and maintain security and system logs and assist with security-event investigation and incident response activities.
- Assist with cybersecurity incident response, containment, recovery, system restoration, and post-incident corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate system documentation, network diagrams, configurations, inventories, procedures, and other technical records required for operational and compliance purposes.
- Assist with the development, maintenance, and validation of disaster recovery, backup, system recovery, and business-continuity capabilities.
- Support system and network changes through appropriate planning, testing, documentation, implementation, and validation.
- Evaluate proposed technologies and configuration changes and provide technical recommendations to management.
- Participate in infrastructure upgrades, technology refreshes, migrations, system deployments, and integration projects.
- Work with corporate and division IT teams to coordinate enterprise services, security requirements, and technical support activities.
- Work with external partners, consultants, agencies, and vendors to troubleshoot complex issues and develop and implement system integration solutions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging infrastructure and cybersecurity technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior system administrators and IT personnel.
- Develop and maintain technical procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for supported systems and technologies.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to users and management regarding system capabilities, security requirements, and appropriate use of IT resources.
- Participate in after-hours support, maintenance, incident response, or emergency recovery activities when required by mission or operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- The Sr. System Administrator is accountable for the secure, reliable, and effective operation of assigned enterprise infrastructure and systems.
- Keep management informed of significant technical issues, risks, outages, security concerns, project status, and recommended corrective actions.
- Maintain a high degree of technical proficiency and remain current with supported technologies and cybersecurity requirements.
- Protect CGS information systems and data and comply with applicable Information Assurance, cybersecurity, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely system documentation and configuration records.
- Exercise sound technical judgment when troubleshooting, making configuration changes, and responding to system or security incidents.
- Work effectively with management, coworkers, users, customers, vendors, and external partners.
- Follow CGS policies, procedures, security requirements, and change management processes.
- Maintain confidentiality, integrity, availability, and security of CGS information systems and data.
- Escalate issues appropriately when they exceed the employee's authority, expertise, or available resources.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, network administration, infrastructure engineering, or a related IT discipline; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated experience administering complex, distributed enterprise IT environments.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Windows client operating systems.
- Strong experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise identity management.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, including Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless networks, firewalls, VPNs, and related security technologies.
- Experience with network technologies from vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, SonicWall, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with Cisco wireless technologies and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), or equivalent network access-control technology.
- Experience with enterprise hardware platforms, including Dell and network/security appliance technologies.
- Experience with vulnerability management, security scanning, patch management, endpoint security, logging, and system monitoring.
- Experience with enterprise management platforms used for vulnerability management, logging, operating-system deployment, configuration management, and Active Directory administration.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity and Information Assurance requirements in a regulated or compliance-driven environment.
- Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-171, DFARS cybersecurity requirements, system hardening, access control, vulnerability remediation, and security documentation.
- Experience with networked printers, copiers, scanners, and other common enterprise peripherals.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requirements, and make sound technical decisions in a mission-critical environment
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- 10-15+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or equivalent position supporting a complex distributed environment.
- Active or previous Secret clearance.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense or other federal government environments.
- Experience with CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, DFARS, or other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019/2022/2025 and current Windows client operating systems.
- Experience with enterprise endpoint detection and response (EDR), antivirus, security information and event management (SIEM), vulnerability management, and security monitoring platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, cloud technologies, or hybrid enterprise environments.
- Experience with enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity technologies.
- Experience with Avaya or other enterprise voice/communications systems.
