Position Overview
A leading government services and national security contractor is seeking a Senior Hypersonics Technical Advisor to support a high-profile Department of Defense organization responsible for advancing next-generation hypersonic technologies and capabilities.
This role serves as a trusted technical expert and advisor to senior government leadership, providing strategic guidance, technical assessments, and insight into hypersonic technology development, testing, demonstration programs, and future investment initiatives. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in hypersonic systems, applied technology development, and complex defense acquisition programs.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Advisory & Strategic Support:
- Provide expert technical counsel on hypersonic technologies, systems, and development programs.
- Support senior government leaders by delivering timely assessments of technology progress, risks, challenges, and investment opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate hypersonic research, development, testing, and demonstration efforts across government, industry, academia, and federally funded research organizations.
- Assess domestic and international hypersonic technology developments to support strategic decision-making.
Program Assessment & Enterprise Awareness:
- Analyze hypersonic vehicle and system development programs across the defense enterprise.
- Develop recommendations to address technical, programmatic, and resource challenges.
- Evaluate technology readiness, transition pathways, and operational relevance of emerging capabilities.
- Support executive-level briefings and technical discussions with senior stakeholders.
Research, Development & Investment Planning:
- Assist in the development and execution of long-range technology and capability roadmaps.
- Support planning, programming, budgeting, and portfolio assessment activities.
- Evaluate new concepts, studies, demonstrations, and technology initiatives.
- Provide assessments of technical merit, program execution, and fiscal effectiveness across hypersonic programs.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Partner with government agencies, military services, laboratories, industry partners, and research organizations.
- Support national-level technical meetings, reviews, and working groups.
- Mentor team members and provide subject matter expertise on hypersonic technology and system development.
- Deliver clear technical communications to executive-level audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another scientific/technical discipline relevant to hypersonic systems
- 20+ years of relevant experience supporting advanced defense technologies, weapon systems, or aerospace programs
- Demonstrated experience with hypersonic vehicles, systems, technologies, and development efforts
- Strong background in applied technology development and complex engineering systems
- Experience providing technical guidance to senior government, defense, or intelligence community stakeholders
- Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Experience supporting major Department of Defense organizations, advanced research agencies, military service laboratories, or national security programs
- Background supporting large-scale demonstrations, technology transitions, advanced weapon systems, or strategic capability initiatives
- Experience assessing emerging technology portfolios and investment strategies
- Familiarity with defense acquisition, experimentation, testing, and operational capability development
