ServiceNow (CMDB/CSDM/ITOM) Architect

The Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), provides comprehensive IT services supporting roughly 2,000 end users across more than 60 global locations. OCIO maintains and evolves enterprise IT capabilities required for the OIG mission, including database support, mobile device management, IT asset management, domain services, network transport, and service desk operations.

The ServiceNow Architect (CMDB/CSDM/ITOM) provides senior technical and architectural leadership for all ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB), Common Service Data Model (CSDM), IT Operations Management (ITOM), Service Graph, Discovery, Service Mapping, and related enterprise service-modeling capabilities. This role is responsible for maturing data accuracy, modeling standards, integrations, governance, and overall platform architecture to ensure reliable service insights across the OIG enterprise.

Hybrid Work Schedule: This position offers a hybrid work schedule, providing flexibility to work both remotely and onsite based on business and team requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior architect for ServiceNow CMDB, CSDM, ITOM, Discovery, Service Mapping, and Service Graph capabilities.
• Assess current-state and target-state CMDB/CSDM maturity and develop roadmaps to advance enterprise data quality, structure, and reliability.
• Establish configuration item (CI) standards, service-modeling patterns, and CMDB governance guardrails.
• Improve CMDB completeness, correctness, compliance, and overall data health through continuous assessment and remediation strategies.
• Design service and application relationship models consistent with CSDM, enterprise architecture requirements, and ServiceNow leading practices.
• Develop and implement Service Mapping strategies, including top-down, bottom-up, and pattern-based mapping.
• Oversee Discovery configuration, schedules, credential management, and data reconciliation rules.
• Integrate authoritative data sources and enterprise systems into the CMDB and Service Graph architecture.
• Establish data ownership, stewardship roles, lifecycle management, and governance practices.
• Define access, controls, and security governance for CMDB, CSDM, and ITOM-related data.
• Support AI readiness by closing CMDB/CSDM and service-model gaps that block planned AI use cases.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure all implementations align with platform leading practices and OIG enterprise standards.
• Collaborate with ServiceNow, Government stakeholders, enterprise contractors, and technical teams to coordinate architectural decisions.
• Develop multiyear maturity roadmaps and technical strategies supporting ongoing improvements in CMDB, CSDM, ITOM, and integrated service models.

Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance.
• IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE or equivalent).
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 8+ years of IT architecture, enterprise data, or systems engineering experience.
• 5+ years of direct experience with ServiceNow CMDB, CSDM, ITOM architecture, Discovery, or implementation efforts.
• Strong understanding of CI-class design, relationship modeling, CSDM frameworks, reconciliation rules, Discovery patterns, and Service Mapping techniques.
• Demonstrated experience improving CMDB data quality, governance, integration, and enterprise modeling.
• Experience working in complex enterprise environments with multi-vendor teams and strict governance requirements.
• Strong communication skills and ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, Discovery/Service Mapping certifications, or Certified Technical Architect-track certifications.
• Experience in federal or DoD environments with ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, Discovery/Service Mapping certifications, or Certified Technical Architect-track certifications.
• Experience in federal or DoD environments with enterprise CMDB or ITOM responsibilities.
