Lead/Chief Engineer – Missile & Weapon Systems (TS/SCI)

POSITION SUMMARY
Indigo Industries is seeking a Lead/Chief Engineer to serve as the senior technical authority for the design,
development, and integration of missiles and integrated weapon systems. This is an engineering leadership role at its core: we’re looking for a hands-on missile engineer who has personally designed and developed a missile — from requirements through hardware — and can lead the full engineering effort across the lifecycle. You’ll own technical architecture and design decisions, direct engineering trade studies, guide the team through development and test, and carry systems through integration, qualification, and fielding. Certification and qualification are part of that arc — you’ll ensure the engineering is sound and defensible against the standards — but the heart of this job is building weapon systems and leading the engineers who build them.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Serve as the senior technical authority for missile and weapon system design, development, and
integration across the lifecycle
• Own system architecture and lead design decisions across propulsion, guidance, airframe, warhead, and
fuzing
• Direct engineering trade studies, requirements analysis, and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)
• Lead a team of engineers through design, development, integration, and test; mentor and grow the
technical bench
• Drive modeling, simulation, and analysis to predict and validate system performance
• Guide development, integration, and flight/ground test campaigns, and adjudicate the resulting data
• Own weapon-to-platform integration — aircraft store integration, seaframe integration, and ground
systems
• Solve hard engineering problems in real time as they surface in development and test
• Ensure designs are sound and defensible against MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-1901, MIL-HDBK-1512, and
applicable certification standards
• Steer qualification, certification, and testing strategy so engineering decisions carry cleanly through to
approval and fielding
• Interface with government technical authorities, review boards, and program offices as the lead technical
voice
• Support proposal efforts, capture, and technical strategy for new development work
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• U.S. citizenship
• Master’s degree in Engineering (aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or a related discipline)
• 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including demonstrated technical leadership
• Direct, hands-on experience designing and developing a missile — personally engineered a missile
or missile subsystems through development and into hardware (firm requirement, not a preference)
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams and own system-level technical decisions
• Strong foundation in modeling, simulation, analysis, and test
• Working knowledge of DoD weapon development and certification processes and the applicable
MIL-STDs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD in Engineering or a related technical discipline
• Depth across multiple missile programs or subsystem types (propulsion, guidance, warhead, fuzing,
airframe)
• Experience taking a system from concept through flight test and fielding
• Store integration experience (SEEK EAGLE, ship/submarine weapons integration, or ground vehicle
integration)
• Insensitive Munitions and Hazard Classification familiarity
• Fuze and safety/arming device design experience (MIL-STD-1316)
• Experience mentoring engineers and shaping technical processes or standards at an organizational level
• Strong data analysis, technical writing, and documentation skills
