GS-12: $93,216.00-$121,183.00

GS-13: $110,847.00-$144,102.00

To attract and retain highly qualified candidates, selectees may be eligible for a recruitment incentive of up to 20% or, for eligible current federal employees, a relocation incentive of up to 15%. Eligibility for a relocation incentive requires proof of a change in residence and an assignment at a worksite in a different geographic area greater than or equal to 50 miles from the prior worksite. Employees must sign a written service agreement completing a specified period of employment with the FBI at the new duty station. Recruitment and relocation incentives cannot be combined.

JOB SUMMARY

The Operational Technology Division delivers technology - based solutions that enable and enhance the FBI's intelligence, national security, and law enforcement operations. OTD provides advanced technical capabilities, specialized expertise, and mission-driven innovation to ensure FBI personnel can effectively investigate threats, protect the nation, and uphold the Constitution.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance

MAJOR DUTIES:

GS 12:

• Manage unit preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
• Conduct training programs as necessary and affords instruction to Special Agent and support personnel on various types of equipment.
• Plan and manage the design, development, delivery, and support of a broad range of telecommunications systems that support agency operations and the accomplishment of highly specialized inter-agency communications requirements.
• Continuously review pertinent technical manuals to remain current with technology. Attend government-sponsored training classes.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with management, Telecommunications Managers, Electronics Technicians, Telecommunications Specialists, and Information Technology Specialists involved in related activities. Ensure coordination of efforts and sharing of information and resources where possible.

GS-13: In addition to above:

• Function in various areas of specialization and functional areas, including but not limited to electronics surveillance, data network, emerging forensic video, image, audio, wireless, networking, electronic security, microwave etc., and provides expertise concerning a myriad of assignments from routine to unique and complex.
• Interpret and evaluate national standards and policies relating to the technical design of complex electronic equipment, communications systems and techniques and operates within those perimeters.
• Conduct surveys and design strategies for the installation of communications, electronics and ELSUR equipment by adapting complex equipment/systems in unusual and precarious locations requiring innovative and unique installation configuration.
• Identify budgetary and resource requirements through preparation of specifications for development, procurement, delivery, installation and/or deployment of unique and innovative systems, and provides cost estimates for the same.
• Prepare and conduct training in technical fields on complex, one-of-a-kind, electronic systems and subsystems, multiplexers, power supplies, repeaters, and digital control equipment, forensic audio and video operations etc.

Specialized Experience (SE)

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

• Experience planning, designing, and carrying out projects independently.
• Experience serving as a technical representative.
• Experience in the field of electronics relating to secure communications and associated wide/narrow band communications.
• Experience carrying out projects independently.
• Experience providing training to others

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

• Experience providing advanced support for advanced electronic, RF, and digital communication systems used in operational and investigative programs, ensuring system reliability, configuration accuracy, and mission readiness across platforms.
• Experience with led integration, testing, and optimization of specialized electronics used in operations, collaborating with engineers and vendors to validate performance, resolve compatibility issues, and implement technical enhancements.
• Experience performing high complexity diagnostics on mission critical electronic and surveillance systems using spectrum analysis, signal tracing, and advanced fault isolation techniques to identify root causes and restore functionality during time sensitive operations.
• Experience delivering expert on site technical support, conducting system checks, field repairs, configuration updates, and technical risk assessments to ensure equipment performance under demanding and dynamic operational environments.
• Experience developing detailed technical procedures, configuration guides, and maintenance documentation while training junior technicians and operators on specialized equipment; ensured compliance with federal, engineering, and security standards.

• The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
