Position Overview
The Systems & Cloud Virtualization Engineer – Level II provides operational and engineering support for both on-premises (local) virtualization infrastructure and cloud-based virtual environments in support of contract requirements.
This mid-level position supports mission-critical systems across hybrid architectures that integrate local data center virtualization platforms with AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud environments, including operations within classified network enclaves.
The selected candidate will work under general supervision and exercise independent technical judgment in administering, troubleshooting, and maintaining secure virtualized systems.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain on-premises virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, ESXi, Hyper-V, or equivalent)
Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud-based virtual machines in cloud environments
Support hybrid cloud integration between local infrastructure and cloud environments
Install, configure, harden, and maintain Windows Server operating systems
Implement system security controls in accordance with STIGs, RMF, and cybersecurity policies
Support Identity Provider (IdP) integration and access management (e.g., Azure AD, ADFS)
Provide system and network troubleshooting across:
Local data center environments
NIPRNet
SIPRNet (MPN, MPE, TAC, STRAT)
JWICS
Monitor system performance, storage utilization, and resource allocation
Perform patching, backup management, and disaster recovery support
Assist in maintaining ATO documentation and compliance artifacts
Follow all classified system handling and operational security procedures
Required Qualifications
Active U.S. security clearance (Secret required; TS/SCI preferred depending on assignment)
3–6 years of experience supporting virtualization and systems administration
Hands-on experience with:
On-premises virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent)
Multi-cloud virtual environments, including both AWS and Microsoft Azure
Experience administering Windows Server (installation, configuration, patching, hardening)
Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, routing, firewalls)
Experience operating within classified environments (NIPR, SIPR, and/or JWICS)
Understanding of storage concepts (SAN/NAS) and virtual networking
Preferred Qualifications
DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification (Security+ or equivalent)
VMware VCP, Azure Administrator Associate, or AWS Associate certification
Experience with hybrid cloud architecture
Familiarity with STIG implementation and RMF processes
Basic automation/scripting (PowerShell preferred)
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
OR
Equivalent combination of education and 3–6 years of relevant experience
Work Environment
On-site support required within secure government facilities
Must comply with all clearance, handling, and operational security requirements
May require occasional after-hours or mission-driven support
