Job Description

Duties

  • You will implement the full lifecycle maintenance for command servers (physical and virtual), workstations, and associated software.
  • You will analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex and recurring faults with operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), hardware, and firmware to restore and optimize system performance.
  • You will implement and enforce system security in compliance with DOW, Navy, and local policies.
  • You will perform system hardening, apply security controls, maintain network accreditation packages, and ensure protection commensurate with the assigned NIST IA Level.
  • You will plan, perform, document, and maintain backups and disaster recovery operations for all cognizant systems to ensure data retention and availability in accordance with command policy.
  • You will actively monitor and analyze system resources, performance logs, and event logs to identify and correct issues, improve system efficiency, and proactively address potential bottlenecks.
  • You will develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, storage devices, and backup systems. Document all configuration changes through a formal approval process.
  • You will actively support Cyber Security incident response activities. Participate in the development of specifications for new IT equipment and support the installation and decommissioning of IT capabilities.

  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 441, proficiency level INTERMEDIATE the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specializedexperience at or equivalent to the NH-02 (or GS-11 equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Server Operating System Management: Installing, configuring, securing, and troubleshooting server operating systems (such as Windows Server or a Linux distribution) in a production or enterprise environment.
  • System and Security Maintenance: Performing routine system administration tasks, such as applying security patches (e.g., IAVMs), managing user accounts and group policies, and monitoring system logs to identify and resolve issues.
  • Data Backup and Recovery: Executing and monitoring system backups, verifying backup integrity, and performing data recovery operations from backup media.
  • System Hardening and Vulnerability Management: Applying security principles to harden operating systems according to established baselines (e.g., STIGs), implementing security controls, and assisting with the remediation of identified system vulnerabilities.

  • Information Technology Operational Performance Measurement and Management: Conduct periodic performance assessments to ensure that information technology (IT) activities, processes, or components are achieving desired results.
  • Information Technology Policy and Planning: Develop and promulgate Information Technology strategy, policy, guidance, and plans. Monitor to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Information Technology Project Management: Execute an information technology project from initiation to sustainment to fulfill established requirements that meet specified business missions.
