ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) i s seeking an Information Systems Security Specialist to join our Weather Observations Systems Subteam that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) . This is a full-t ime r emote position supporting work at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, OK .

The FAA's Weather Observation Systems Subteam provides critical engineering, lifecycle management, and technical support for a comprehensive network of ground-based aviation weather sensors and information display platforms. By managing diverse equipment-ranging from the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) and wind shear detectors such as the Low Level Windshear Alert System (LLWAS) to specialized terminal data displays (ACE-IDS)-the team ensures that air traffic controllers and pilots have the accurate, real-time meteorological data essential for safe flight operations.

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.

  • Be a US Citizen .
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • RealID Driver's License/ID or current US Passport.


Education & Experience Requirement

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate at the time of application .

  • A Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related IT fields, with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science may be substituted in lieu of the computer science degree, depending on other qualifications and experience.
  • Knowledge and application of Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA) requirements and associated National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publications and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) is desirable.
  • Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is desired .
  • 9+ years of related work experience.


Required Skills

  • Provides risk analysis for vulnerabilities, incidents, and change requests.
  • Develops, maintains , and reviews technical documentation, system records, reports, security documentation, and configuration information to support ongoing NAS operations.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, networking, information technology, and information security principles.
  • Analyzes system, network, and operational information to identify issues, vulnerabilities, risks, and potential impacts to system availability or performance.
  • Maintains accurate system, operational, and administrative records with strong attention to detail.
  • Coordinates technical activities and communicates effectively with government personnel, contractors, telecommunications providers, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyzes technical issues and provides clear, actionable recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Manages multiple activities, service requests, outages, and action items, ensuring appropriate follow-up and resolution with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently, as well as on a team, in an agile environment.
    • Research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
    • Learn on the job/willing to self-teach.
    • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting FAA National Airspace System (NAS) facilities, systems, equipment, or operational programs.
  • Experience with FAA Surveillance and Weather systems, including ASOS and AWOS equipment and operations.
  • Familiarity with National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office operations and FAA/NWS coordination for ASOS maintenance and support.
  • Knowledge of Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) requirements.
  • Understanding of federal cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and practical application of NIST Special Publications.
  • Knowledge and practical application of Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS).


Essential Daily Job Duties

  • Respond to public inquiries.
  • Travel to support installation, relocation, modification, and field activities for ASOS equipment across the United States.
  • Coordinate with FAA personnel, NWS representatives, telecommunications providers, field technicians, and other stakeholders to resolve ASOS/AWOS operational issues.
  • Prepare and submit Purchase Requisitions for ASOS-related equipment, services, maintenance, and program activities.
  • Maintain and verify accuracy of National Flight Data Center charts and documentation related to ASOS systems.
  • Initiate, track, and follow up on FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure and service tickets for ASOS/AWOS outages and communication issues.
