Newport News, VA - onsite
System One is seeking a Senior Product Designer to shape the applications, workflows, and user experiences supporting a U.S. Army enterprise data environment. You will work alongside software engineers, data engineers, product leaders, and Army stakeholders to turn complex operational needs into software that is clear, useful, and built for real-world use. This position requires an active Secret clearance.
This is a hands-on design role spanning product discovery through delivery. You will help define what should be built, create and test design concepts, and remain engaged as working software reaches users.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in product design, interaction design, human-computer interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7 or more years of experience designing digital products or complex enterprise applications.
• A portfolio demonstrating strong interaction design, systems thinking, and delivery of software used in production.
• Experience conducting user research and translating findings into actionable product decisions.
• Proficiency with modern collaborative design and prototyping tools.
• Experience working closely with software engineers throughout product development.
• Experience designing data-rich interfaces, workflows, or decision-support applications.
• Experience supporting a Department of Defense customer.
• Active Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting the U.S. Army.
• Experience designing software for operational, logistics, readiness, or enterprise-data use cases.
• Experience working in integrated product teams using iterative software-development practices.
• Familiarity with AWS, Palantir Foundry, Army Vantage, or comparable enterprise platforms.
• Experience creating or extending design systems.
• Familiarity with Section 508 and accessible design practices.
• Experience modernizing complex or legacy enterprise applications.
Responsibilities:
• Lead product design for data-intensive applications and operational workflows.
• Work directly with users and mission stakeholders to understand their goals, constraints, and current ways of working.
• Translate user needs into product concepts, workflows, prototypes, and detailed interaction designs.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to define requirements, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver usable software.
• Plan and conduct user research, usability testing, and design validation.
• Simplify complex data, processes, and technical capabilities into clear user experiences.
• Contribute to shared design patterns and a consistent design system across applications.
• Support the modernization or replacement of functionality currently delivered through legacy platforms.
• Incorporate accessibility, security, and federal usability requirements throughout the design process.
• Use feedback and product performance data to improve deployed capabilities.
