Job Description

Duties

  • Direct the work of subordinate supervisors to ensure effective security guard operations.
  • Set performance standards for supervisors to maintain consistent operational quality.
  • Evaluate supervisors' performance to ensure alignment with mission requirements.
  • Resolve employee complaints and grievances to maintain workplace stability
  • Approve disciplinary actions to enforce regulatory and conduct standards
  • Manage training for the guard force to ensure readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Execute inspection programs for guard security functions to protect life and government property


Requirements

Conditions of employment
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56 (The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program), passing an initial and annual medical examination evaluating physical, emotional, and mental stability is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • Meeting and maintaining suitability standards under the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) including assessments of dependability, emotional stability, judgment, and performance under emergency conditions is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • Obtaining and maintaining state certification for the operation of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • Being willing and able to wear required chemical protective equipment (e.g., masks, gloves) and obtain/maintain mandatory certifications in the use of aerosol irritants and batons as required for this position.
  • Successful completion of mandatory security guard training is a condition of employment for this position.
  • Successful completion of initial firearms qualification and ongoing semi-annual re-qualification in accordance with AR 190-56 (The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program) is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56 (The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program), successfully passing an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • Wearing the official Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintaining high standards of personal appearance and hygiene in accordance with AR 190-56 is a mandatory condition of employment.
  • Obtaining and maintaining mandatory operational certifications for assigned electronic security systems, equipment, and sensors is a condition of employment.
  • The ability to wear a chemical protective mask and associated chemical protective overgarments without medical restriction is a mandatory condition of employment.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Guiding security staff to support supervisors and maintain compliance with security procedures.; Assisting with security training by helping update materials and supporting instruction.; and Supporting security operations by conducting inspections, updating procedures, and coordinating routine activities with partner agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
