Job Description

SMS seeks an IT Equipment Custodian (ITEC) to provide onsite support to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Edwards AFB, California. The ITEC functions as a Property Custodian for one or more ADPE and non-ADPE accounts in accordance with DAFMAN 17-1203.

The position supports the complete IT asset-management lifecycle, including acquisition, receipt and acceptance, physical inventory, transfer, management, disposal, and financial reporting. IT hardware includes computing and network systems that process, store, and distribute data, including computers, mobile devices, displays, network equipment, printers/scanners, servers, and related equipment.

The ITEC also provides Tier 0/1 help desk support as assigned, resolving routine IT issues and following established support processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Function as Property Custodian for assigned ADPE and non-ADPE accounts in accordance with DAFMAN 17-1203 and established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate asset accountability throughout acquisition, receipt and acceptance, inventory, transfer, management, disposal, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain asset records including serial numbers, asset tags, locations, assigned users/organizations, status, and other required accountability information.
  • Conduct physical inventories, reconcile discrepancies, verify equipment locations, and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Process equipment receipts, assignments, transfers, relocations, turn-ins, and disposition through established procedures.
  • Maintain individual hand receipts and applicable property-accountability documentation.
  • Track IT hardware including computers, mobile devices, displays, network equipment, printers/scanners, servers, and other accountable equipment.
  • Coordinate asset lifecycle activities with customers, technical teams, property personnel, and other stakeholders through established processes.
  • Maintain records, reports, SOPs, and supporting asset-management documentation.
  • Provide Tier 0/1 help desk support, including customer assistance, ServiceNow ticket management, routine troubleshooting, and escalation when required.
  • Provide professional customer support while maintaining accurate and timely asset and service documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in IT asset management, property accountability, inventory management, logistics, IT operations, or a related field.
  • Experience maintaining equipment/property records and conducting physical inventories.
  • Ability to track and reconcile serial numbers, asset tags, locations, assignments, transfers, and equipment status.
  • Familiarity with common enterprise IT hardware.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint Online.
  • Strong organizational, critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities and coordinate or escalate issues through established channels.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience serving as a Property Custodian for ADPE and/or non-ADPE accounts.
  • Familiarity with DAFMAN 17-1203 and Air Force property-accountability requirements.
  • Experience supporting the full asset lifecycle, including acquisition, receipt, inventory, transfer, financial reporting, and disposal.
  • Experience with ServiceNow ITSM and/or Asset Management.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Department of the Air Force, government, research, or classified environments.
  • Experience with hand receipts, asset tagging, inventory reconciliation, or property audits.
