High-Performance Computing (HPC) Solutions Architect
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HPC Solutions Architect to lead the design and modernization of advanced computing environments supporting mission-critical development. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for designing, building, and potentially implementing a next-generation High-Performance Computing cluster.
You will translate customer goals and evolving CNO development needs into a secure, scalable technical architecture. The ideal candidate understands emerging HPC technologies, CI/CD pipelines, on-premises infrastructure, and the practical application of large language models (LLMs) within complex development environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the architecture, configuration, and system loadout for a next-generation HPC cluster.
- Develop a technical roadmap and reusable patterns that enable teams to adopt LLM-based solutions where they provide clear mission value.
- Launch high-return pilot projects and create streamlined templates, shared resources, and repeatable implementation approaches.
- Preserve the flexibility required for organizations to manage on-premises infrastructure when security or mission requirements demand it.
- Architect end-to-end solutions for complex CNE services, including integration patterns connecting legacy systems with modern HPC environments.
- Ensure proposed solutions maintain required security controls while improving performance, scalability, reliability, and usability.
- Assess existing infrastructure and work with stakeholders to identify services operating on aging or end-of-life platforms.
- Document system dependencies, evaluate the continuing value of existing services, and develop modernization priorities based on end-of-life timelines, mission impact, cost efficiency, and user needs.
- Design modern workflows and development experiences that improve how CNE developers interact with their tools and environments.
- Incorporate CI/CD practices and emerging technologies into the broader platform strategy.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the design, build, integration, and potential implementation of the new environment.
- Help establish CNO as a premier environment for software development by creating a modern platform that attracts and retains exceptional technical talent.
Required Skills
YOE Requirement: 8 yrs., B.S. in a technical discipline or 4 additional yrs. in place of B.S.
- Demonstrated expertise designing and building High-Performance Computing clusters.
- Strong knowledge of modern infrastructure architecture, system integration, and on-premises computing environments.
- Experience designing or supporting CI/CD pipelines and contemporary software-development workflows.
- Familiarity with LLM solutions, reusable platform patterns, and pilot-to-production adoption strategies.
- Ability to integrate legacy platforms with modern, scalable infrastructure.
- Experience conducting technical assessments and developing practical modernization roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of security controls in mission-critical computing environments.
- Ability to communicate complex architectural decisions to technical teams, stakeholders, and customers.
Desired Skills
- CNO development experience - understanding what developers actually need makes you a more effective infrastructure architect.
- Enclave experience - you understand what makes restricted environments different - the constraints, the processes, and how security controls impact architecture decisions.
- Cost optimization expertise - experience right-sizing cloud resources, building FinOps practices, or making defensible recommendations about when cloud implementations actually save money vs. when managed service costs spiral.
