ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Range Control Specialist V is a certified Range Control Officer (RCO) who may be a Site Chief who is responsible for overall operations of a particular air-to-ground test and training range or group of ranges and is responsible for maintenance activities and reporting requirements for the ranges they are assigned. This position reports to a Supervisor. Some assignments are complex in nature and are reviewed by supervisor, engineer, or senior technician for adequacy and conformity. Will be required to give directions to and train lower-level employees. May be required to generate reports.

GENERAL DUTIES:
  • Must have knowledge and experience navigating CSE to interpret daily mission requirements.
  • Must be familiar with Surface Dange Zones (SDZ's) and weapons profiles.
  • Must be familiar with JTTOCC and its function on Eglin AFB.
  • Must be familiar with Eglin's range access procedures ("Z" Clearances), radio operations/etiquette, and navigate Eglin's Test and Training complex day and night without a map.
  • Must be detail oriented and work well under pressure.
  • Must have an outstanding knowledge of test and training range operations, range capabilities and requirements and recognize UXO on test ranges and reporting process when found.
  • Must be computer literate and able to perform primary job functions using computers and displays.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • This individual may oversee all aspects of day-to-day activities on a range or test site related to missions and test support and work directly with other Eglin entities to de-conflict mission schedules.
  • Work may pertain to coordinating and, at times, directing range resources and activities.
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Work may be performed independently or with other technicians.
  • Must be able to make critical decisions.
  • Some duties may include operating test/training equipment; operating and adjusting simple range test equipment; recording test/training data; gathering and maintaining specified records and data related to range activities.

Job Requirements

OTHER DUTIES: May be assigned additional duties (i.e. site safety rep) to support contract/mission requirements in job related areas. May be required to handle hazardous materials/hazardous waste and other duties as assigned. May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) and six years' experience with Eglin range operations and maintenance, command & control, or test and training operations. Must have a minimum of four years' experience as an RCO and have RCO certification on a minimum of two Open Air Ranges.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Candidates must be able to pass physical and eye exams related to the job functions. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work may be performed at various heights above ground level. May perform duties both inside and outside and may be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical to the work area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and move heavy items. Must be able to lift 50lbs and negotiate stairways without difficulty.
