Contract Position | 40 hrs/week | Anticipated Duration: Through 2026, potential extension into 2027

Location: Remote (must reside within the contiguous United States) | Travel required as needed

About the Role:

Our client, a leader in nuclear power technology, is seeking an experienced Nuclear Component Stress Analysis Engineer to join their Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization. This team generates technical requirements and design parameters for a modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS, engineering components to nuclear industry standards using proven, state-of-the-art methodologies. All work is performed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and applicable U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidelines.

Position Summary:

This role performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply expert-level knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations
  • Perform and document component evaluations per ASME BPVC Section III rules, including analysis for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings, Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue; use results to optimize component design
  • Utilize ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages extensively
  • Interpret project scope and requirements
  • Acquire, maintain, and develop training qualifications; mentor staff in NSSS Component Analysis
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams to resolve technical problems
  • Provide mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers; serve as technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group
  • Take ownership of engineering results and oversight
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred) from a four-year ABET-accredited institution required; advanced degree preferred; P.E. certification preferred
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of full-time relevant experience required, including extensive use of ANSYS for stress analysis per ASME BPVC Section III, Subsections NB and/or NF
  • Preferred additional skills: Computer programming (e.g., ANSYS APDL, MATLAB, Python)
  • Industry Requirement: Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
