Supervisory Detective

Duties

• Directs and manages the investigative unit by planning work, assigning cases, evaluating performance, resolving personnel issues, and overseeing training and development of detectives.
• Leads and supervises complex criminal investigations by reviewing cases, determining investigative actions, coordinating support, and making decisions on case direction and disposition.
• Oversees evidence and property operations by ensuring proper handling, storage, documentation, inspections, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Reviews case files, reports, tips, and complaints to decide the required investigative steps.
• Supports law enforcement operations and policy development by coordinating training, ensuring proper emergency response activities, and contributing to regulations, plans, and procedures.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Incumbent must complete a physical ability test (PAT) to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position IAW AR 190-56.
• This position requires a pre-employment medical examination/periodic medical evaluations to ensure the continued required level of health needed to perform the essential functions of the job IAW AR 190-56.
• Incumbent must maintain a high standard of conduct and is subject to continuous evaluation to ensure character, trustworthiness, and fitness meet the expectations of law enforcement and security professionals per AR 190-56, para 3-2.
• This is a drug testing position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Incumbent is required to attend and successfully complete annual unarmed self-defense and restraint techniques training in accordance with AR 190-56.
• The incumbent must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques.
• Incumbent is required to coordinate testing/certification in radar and breathalyzer operations with Washington State Patrol.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
• Incumbent must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, Section II "Uniform Standards and Specifications" and AR 190-56, Chapter 6 "Uniforms and Equipment".
• Incumbent is required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Incumbent is required to have a valid, state-issued driver's license and must be insurable in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Incumbent is required to graduate from U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy and have completed the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program prior to assignment of duties in accordance with AR 190-56.
• Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
• This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to facility, natural disaster, etc.).
• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance of access for the duration of employment which includes a background investigation and credit check IAW Army Regulation (AR) 380-67.
• Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 25%
• This position requires shift work, rotational on-call duty, and availability to respond to emergencies beyond normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during actual or simulated incidents.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Executing complex criminal investigations to identify and apprehend suspects; 2) Reviewing subordinate investigative reports to ensure legal and procedural accuracy; and 3) Guiding investigators on proper investigative methods to improve the accuracy and quality of casework. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education
