ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-9) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. This is a full-time on-site position at the William J Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace (WJHTCAA).

The ASR-9 is a radar system used by the FAA to monitor air traffic and weather conditions in the United States. The ASR-9 is a primary surveillance radar that provides air traffic controllers with information on aircraft position and weather.

Citizenship Requirement

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Be a US Citizen.
  • Have resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • RealID Driver's License/ID or current US Passport.


Relocation Requirement

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Education & Experience Requirement

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
  • Associates degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar science/technology curriculum is required. OR
    • A Certificate of Training in a two year Electronics Engineering Technology or similar curriculum from a community college, vocational education school, military training, or FAA Academy may be substituted in lieu of the associate of science degree, depending on other qualifications and experience. OR
    • A minimum of 4 years of experience in this specific technical area that is pertinent to the support of the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience is required.
  • NAS experience is desired.


Required Skills
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and engineering theory.
  • Ability to:
  • Work independently, as well as a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Navigate complex workflows; research and problem solve; willingness to learn/try new things.
  • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors to procure parts for modification kits.
  • Follow specific instructions to assemble/construct standard equipment or parts.
  • Service/repair instruments or equipment.
  • Perform installation and maintenance activities from written documentation.
  • Climb tower/antenna for on-site installations


Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of/with:
  • NAS facilities and related systems and equipment, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Radar system components, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, and signal processors.
  • Radar system simulation tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D Printer, Wireshark).
  • Soldering, using hand tools and test equipment (e.g., Crimpers, Wire Strippers, Soldering iron, Solder sucker, Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter).
  • Building network CAT 5 cables and wires, validating by using a Digital Multimeter for continuity checks.


Essential Daily Job Duties
  • Conduct:
  • System upgrades, modifications, and calibration activities to improve performance and meet operational requirements.
  • Feasibility studies and cost analyses for electrical systems.
  • Or participate in formal and informal reviews at predetermined points throughout the development life cycle.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including maintenance procedures and system configurations.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.


Work Environment
  • Full-time position with a standard work schedule.
  • Cubicle environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Travel ~10%.
  • Tower/Antenna climbing when on travel.
