Job Description
HII Mission Technologies is seeking an experienced Tactical Communications Equipment Technician to support Tactical Training Group Pacific, Detachment Yokosuka. This role provides advanced expertise in tactical radios, data links, and communication systems to enhance fleet training and operational readiness. An International Assignment Agreement (IAA) will be available for this position to support relocation, onboarding, and administrative requirements associated with working in Yokosuka, Japan.
The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on experience with Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communication systems, tactical data link (TDL) architectures, and military communication standards. The technician will conduct independent technical work or lead small teams, ensuring reliable communications support aligned with Navy protocols, security requirements, and mission objectives.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Operate, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain tactical radio systems and related communication equipment.
- Manage and monitor tactical data link (TDL) paths including LOS Link 11(A), LOS Link 16, and Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP).
- Support TTGP Yokosuka training events, exercises, demonstrations, and system-integration activities.
- Ensure strict compliance with applicable military communication protocols, operational standards, and security policies.
- Document system configurations, maintenance actions, technical findings, and procedural updates.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training support to personnel as required.
- Perform independent tasks or supervise small teams to meet mission, operational, and training objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on testing, integration, and deployment of communication systems.
- Assist with CMS equipment loading and handling procedures and ensure proper configuration management.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of RF issues, TDL anomalies, and interoperability challenges across multi-domain networks.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
- Experience operating, configuring, and maintaining tactical radio systems (preferably as a U.S. Navy Electronics Technician, Information Systems Technician, or equivalent military technical specialty).
- Demonstrated experience performing independent technical tasks or supervising small technical teams.
- Recent, hands-on experience configuring and operating tactical data link paths including:
- LOS Link 11(A)
- LOS Link 16
- JREAP (A/B/C) - Experience applying military communication protocols, policies, standards, and security requirements.
- Ability to maintain required certifications, clearances, and technical qualifications.
- • Strong technical documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a current or active DoD secret clearance.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience integrating tactical communication systems onto shipboard, airborne, or land-based platforms.
- Familiarity with Link 22 or emerging tactical data link technologies.
- Prior support to joint or coalition operations involving multi-domain or combined communication networks.
- Experience with system-level testing, validation, and verification of tactical communication equipment.
- Working knowledge of network architectures associated with JREAP-C, SATCOM-based pathways, and IP-based tactical routing.
- Ability to develop, update, and refine SOPs, technical manuals, user guides, and training materials.
- Advanced analytical skills for troubleshooting RF systems, data link issues, and interoperability challenges.
- Prior experience supporting defense contractors, fleet training commands, or military program offices.
- Experience working in Yokosuka, Japan or supporting forward-deployed naval forces.
- Ability to meet and maintain Japan entry requirements (including SOFA eligibility and required medical/administrative compliance).
Physical Requirements
- May require work in industrial, shipboard, or similar operational environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds to a height of three feet.
- May encounter extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, pollution, and other environmental variables while collecting data or observing work activities.
