This is a computer programming SME position. The selected candidate must be an expert programmer in Python, C++, and Visual Basic. Modeling and simulation experience alone does not meet the requirement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Program new modeling and visualization tools to depict complex systems, such as aircraft generation flow or chemical agent behavior.
- Develop, modify, troubleshoot, test, document, and maintain custom software in Python, C++, and Visual Basic.
- Translate operational and technical requirements into working software solutions that model or visualize CBRN effects on air operations.
- Maintain and enhance existing custom modeling and visualization software as mission requirements evolve.
Additional Supporting Responsibilities
- As assigned, the position may also support the development, maintenance, and operation of current and future sortie-generation and hazard-prediction Modeling & Simulation (M&S) products, including systems such as VLSTRACK, HPAC, JEM, and related tools.
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of directly relevant professional experience consistent with the SME labor category.
- Expert-level, hands-on programming capability in Python, C++, and Visual Basic.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop, modify, troubleshoot, test, and maintain software in all three required programming languages.
- Demonstrated ability to program software that models or visualizes complex systems involving chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear effects on air operations.
- Substantial professional software development experience; experience limited primarily to operating or analyzing M&S products is not sufficient.
Preferred Experience
- Experience developing software supporting DoD, Air Force, CWMD, CBRN, or other national security missions.
- Experience with VLSTRACK, HPAC, JEM, sortie-generation models, hazard-prediction tools, or comparable systems.
- Experience maintaining or enhancing legacy scientific, analytical, or operational software.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Modeling & Simulation, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or related technical discipline.
- Equivalent military or operational experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Security Requirements
- Active Top Secret / SCI eligibility required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain additional accesses if required by the assigned work.
Work Environment
- Supports operational, laboratory, classified, and mission-focused environments.
- May require periodic travel in support of exercises, testing events, and operational assessments.
