Job Description
The Resident HPC Hardware Technician Specialist will support an HPE supercomputing environment at a customer site in Hawthorne, California. Working onsite five days per week and collaborating with both customer stakeholders and remote HPE teams, this role is responsible for maintaining system availability and uptime to ensure service level commitments are met.
This position involves daily break-fix activities, advanced troubleshooting, hardware repairs, and component replacement across a large-scale High Performance Computing (HPC) environment. The technician will respond directly to customer requests, provide technical and operational support, and assist with maintaining a stable and reliable computing infrastructure.
Required Skills
• 5+ years of Linux HPC-related experience, ideally supporting large-scale HPC environments.
• Strong experience with Linux/Unix operating systems, including:
o Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
o CentOS or equivalent distributions
• Experience with:
o Linux systems administration
o HPC hardware support
o File systems
o Networking
o Security administration
o Hardware troubleshooting and repair
o Data center environments
o Supercomputing infrastructure
o Fiber and cabling technologies
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience (including an additional three years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree).
• Hands-on experience in both systems administration and hardware support.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain availability and operational readiness of Linux-based supercomputer systems.
• Perform hardware diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacements as required.
• Gather data, perform analysis, and escalate issues to higher-level support teams and management when necessary.
• Support technical designs and infrastructure solutions that meet customer requirements.
• Work closely with project and technical management teams, as well as customer representatives.
• Provide recommendations regarding solution implementation and integration opportunities.
• Communicate effectively with customer teams and contribute to successful project outcomes.
• Document processes, procedures, project learnings, and technical knowledge for future use.
• Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across technical teams.
