CANES Systems Engineer (Active Top Secret Clearance Required)
Insight Global is hiring a CANES Systems Engineer to support a high-visibility U.S. Navy modernization initiative with a leading defense partner. This engineer will play a key role in a pilot program focused on enhancing, automating, and sustaining Agile Core Services (ACS) and Red Hat OpenShift environments within the Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) architecture.
This is an opportunity to work on mission-critical naval networking technologies that directly support fleet operations. We're seeking a technically strong engineer who can operate independently, solve complex engineering challenges, and contribute immediately within a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Location: Norfolk, VA (preferred)
Also considering candidates in Charleston, SC and San Diego, CA
Remote candidates may be considered but should expect increased travel requirements.
Compensation: $125,000 - $150,000/year based on experience, skills, education, and clearance status.
What You'll Do
-Design, implement, and support OpenShift-based solutions integrated with CANES network, identity, and PKI services
-Develop and maintain Ansible automation solutions to streamline deployment and sustainment activities
-Analyze existing infrastructure and recommend improvements to performance, security, and reliability
-Troubleshoot Linux-based systems, applications, and enterprise infrastructure environments
-Support installation, integration, testing, and validation efforts aboard Navy platforms
-Create and maintain engineering documentation, diagrams, system configurations, and deployment artifacts
-Participate in technical reviews, Agile ceremonies, and cross-functional engineering discussions
-Research emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to current solutions
-Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior team members when needed
Required Qualifications
-Active Top Secret Security Clearance
-5+ years of experience supporting Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES)
-5+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, integration engineering, or technical support
-2+ years of experience with:
-Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Rocky Linux, or CentOS
-Ansible Automation Platform
-Experience implementing, integrating, and troubleshooting enterprise infrastructure solutions
-Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
-Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform work aboard ships and waterfront facilities in varying conditions
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience with Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes environments
-Experience integrating systems with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and identity management services
-Experience supporting Navy tactical, afloat, or enterprise networks
-Experience creating technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and engineering artifacts
-Previous shipboard installation, deployment, or waterfront support experience
-Familiarity with Agile Core Services (ACS)
Schedule & Travel
Monday through Friday
Typical schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Occasional meetings aligned to Pacific Time business hours
Approximately 10-25% travel
Travel may include 1-2 week deployments based on project schedules and ship availability
