Information Technology Senior Consultant – Level 5

The IT Senior Consultant Level 5 serves as a senior technical expert leading advanced storage engineering initiatives across large, mission critical environments. This role provides specialized consulting, architecture guidance, and project leadership while engineering and optimizing enterprise storage, backup, and replication systems. Hands-on NetApp experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Storage Engineering
• Provide hands-on engineering support for NetApp and enterprise storage platforms (SAN/NAS).
• Configure, optimize, and maintain storage using S3, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel protocols.
• Conduct capacity planning, sizing, and performance tuning for storage and backup environments (Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, Rubrik, CommVault).
• Support data center migrations, replication technologies, and multi-platform storage integration.
• Connect storage arrays to hypervisors including Nutanix, VMware VCF, and OpenStack.
Systems Architecture & High Availability
• Design and implement high availability storage architectures supporting resiliency and scalability.
• Ensure proper configuration of hardware components (disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID).
• Monitor and analyze performance metrics (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls).
• Oversee installation, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance of enterprise storage hardware/software.
Security & Compliance
• Apply federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG) and security best practices.
• Use Nessus Security Center to identify vulnerabilities and validate compliance.
• Ensure secure storage operations aligned with mission and regulatory requirements.
Operational Support & Documentation
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex storage and backup issues across distributed environments.
• Provide incident support and participate in on-call rotation.
• Maintain engineering documentation (diagrams, run books, installation guides, SOPs).
• Monitor systems and review statistics related to performance, utilization, and capacity.
Consulting & Project Leadership
• Lead medium to large IT projects and major phases of enterprise modernization initiatives.
• Provide specialized technical guidance and solutions to complex IT challenges.
• Prepare detailed analyses, technical reports, and briefings for government stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and federal technical staff to evaluate and integrate new technologies.
• Demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and the ability to take direction in high-impact mission environments.
Minimum Qualifications
• Active TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph (must already be held).
• Bachelor’s degree + 12 years relevant experience, OR
• Associate’s degree + 15 years relevant experience, OR
• High School/GED + 20 years relevant experience.
• IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and take direction effectively.
Required Technical Qualifications
• Extensive hands-on engineering experience with NetApp platforms (must-have).
• Deep experience with SAN and NAS storage technologies.
• Strong understanding of S3, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel block storage.
• Experience with capacity planning and sizing across storage and backup ecosystems (Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, Rubrik, CommVault).
• Proven performance tuning and optimization experience for storage/backup environments.
• Experience supporting data center migrations and enterprise replication technologies.
• Senior-level experience designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale, multi-data-center systems.
• Strong understanding of high availability concepts and practical implementation experience.
• Strong understanding of hardware fundamentals (disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID).
• Understanding of essential performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls).
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals (TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP).
• Experience integrating storage arrays with hypervisors (Nutanix, VMware VCF, OpenStack).
• Understanding of federal security best practices and hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG).
