Position Location

The Dispatcher position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility Fire Department.

Job Overview

The Dispatcher position provides emergency instructions to callers, dispatch emergency services personnel to alarms or other emergency calls and respond to questions related to site operations. Position is responsible for monitoring customer's security, fire, and other integrated systems. Position verifies alarm system activations and responds in an appropriate manner, adhering to all standards and procedures.

The non-exempt, union represented position pays $21.38 hourly.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:
  • Operate a multi-telephone and emergency notification system in the NASA Fire and Emergency Services Dispatch Center of Fire and Security (Law Enforcement) operations.
  • Responsible for all emergency telephone calls and radio communications for the Department as well as Security radio transmissions.
  • Monitors a variety of alarm panels and Security Systems necessary for the protection of personnel and normal, daily operations.
  • Perform various administrative duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Working knowledge of Fire and Security (Law Enforcement) operations.
  • Harmoniously working with other employees and customers.
  • Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Personnel accountability and performance management to include personnel reviews, timesheet review, leave request, counseling, coaching, disciplinary actions and recognition for assigned staff members.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working without close supervision and making quick, independent decisions related to alarm calls.
  • Function as a member of a team in fast paced environment.
  • Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanners, telephone systems, filing, and other standard office equipment and functions are a requirement of the position.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must obtain a New Mexico Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification and NCIC (National Crime Information Center) Certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass background checks and/or drug testing as required on the contract.

Preferred:
  • Prior 911 emergency center or dispatch experience.

Working Conditions:
  • Position is located on a hazardous test facility operated by NASA.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel rocks and dirt is required to access various locations on the facility.
  • Uneven surfaces exist in office and shop areas and must be traversed.
  • All work must be completed in as safe manner in accordance with NASA and Chugach Safety Standards.

Physical Requirements:
  • Non-hazardous requirements include sitting, walking, standing, use of stairs, uneven terrain, and accessing remote areas.
