Overview

Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization, is seeking an Operability Lead Engineer to support the development, analysis, testing, and qualification of advanced gas turbine propulsion systems. This role is focused on engine operability and performance across next-generation military engine programs and fielded propulsion platforms.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, working closely with systems, performance, aerodynamics, and testing teams to evaluate engine stability, operability, and performance throughout the product lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge propulsion technologies while helping define future engine operability solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop engine test plans to establish and verify safe operating limits.
- Monitor component, rig, and system-level testing activities to ensure operational safety and performance objectives are achieved.
- Analyze inlet distortion effects and develop methods to simulate and assess impacts on engine operation.
- Perform operability analyses to evaluate engine stability and performance across the flight envelope.
- Utilize thermodynamic modeling tools to analyze engine performance data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Support the improvement and advancement of gas turbine engine modeling techniques and methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems, aerodynamics, performance, controls, and test engineering organizations.
- Execute technical analysis and engineering evaluations to meet program objectives and customer requirements.
- Lead efforts to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operability issues during development, testing, manufacturing, and field operations.
- Define testing strategies, conduct performance evaluations, and document results in accordance with engineering standards.
- Provide technical leadership and support to engineering teams and project personnel.
- Support quality, cost reduction, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders and program leadership.
- Participate in technical design reviews, program reviews, and customer meetings.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 3 years of systems engineering or related engineering experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Current Secret Security Clearance.
- 2 to 5 years of aerospace, propulsion, or mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience with aircraft engine testing, engine cycle performance, or component aerodynamic design.
- Experience supporting gas turbine engine development, qualification, certification, or validation efforts.
- Experience in engine operability analysis and gas turbine performance assessment.
- Familiarity with engine thermodynamic modeling and simulation tools.
- Proficiency with NPSS, Python, or similar engineering analysis software.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and propulsion system behavior.
- Experience supporting engine test programs and data analysis activities.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Systems-thinking mindset and a process-driven approach to engineering problem solving.
- Demonstrated project management and technical leadership experience.
