- Colorado Springs, CO
Position Title: Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) – Space Systems / Digital Engineering
Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI Eligibility
Position Summary
Waypoint's client is seeking a highly motivated Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support a newly awarded U.S. Space Force contract delivering next-generation digital engineering, operational testing, and training capabilities for Space Systems Command (SSC) System Delta 81 (SYD81).
This role supports the Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI) program, where engineers will help modernize the National Space Test and Training Complex (NSTTC) through advanced digital engineering, model-based systems engineering, high-fidelity simulation, and systems integration. Working alongside Space Force engineers, software developers, operators, and mission stakeholders, the selected candidate will develop digital engineering artifacts, executable system models, and architecture products that improve mission readiness and accelerate the delivery of future space capabilities.
This is an outstanding opportunity to work on one of the newest and most visible Space Force programs supporting digital transformation across the space enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and refine Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) artifacts using SysML and Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw).
- Translate operational concepts, user needs, and mission requirements into executable system models, behavioral diagrams, interface definitions, and architecture products.
- Develop digital engineering products supporting system architecture, requirements decomposition, interface management, verification, validation, and technical baselines.
- Support Digital Engineering initiatives across the complete systems engineering lifecycle ("V" Model).
- Perform trade studies, performance analyses, and technical assessments supporting engineering decision making.
- Create and maintain system requirements using DOORS or similar requirements management tools.
- Develop behavioral, structural, functional, and interface models supporting complex systems-of-systems architectures.
- Support operational modeling, simulation, and analysis using tools such as AFSIM and related modeling environments.
- Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and technical reviews.
- Collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, test engineers, UX teams, operators, and government stakeholders to mature capabilities from concept through implementation.
- Produce engineering documentation including technical reports, design specifications, interface control documentation, verification plans, and engineering recommendations.
- Support Digital Engineering initiatives that improve testing, training, and mission readiness for U.S. Space Force operational systems.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline.

- Experience supporting Digital Engineering initiatives.
- Experience with AFSIM or comparable modeling and simulation tools.
- Experience supporting operational analysis, campaign analysis, or mission engineering.
- Knowledge of space systems, command and control (C2), missile defense, satellite operations, or space domain awareness.
- Experience developing executable architecture models and systems-of-systems models.
- Experience supporting Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E), developmental testing, or training environments.
- Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence, or similar DevSecOps collaboration tools.
