About inQ
inQ is a growing technology and engineering company supporting mission-critical programs across the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. Our teams bring expertise in systems engineering, software development, cybersecurity, cloud, data, AI/ML, and advanced engineering solutions to some of the nation's most challenging missions.
We are seeking talented early-career professionals who enjoy solving complex problems, working alongside highly technical teams, and making an immediate contribution to national security missions.
Position Summary
inQ is seeking a Senior Systems & Software Engineer III specializing in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), software engineering, and modeling and simulation to support advanced DoD and Intelligence Community missions.
This hybrid role is designed for an engineer who can develop system architectures and behavioral models in SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw while also writing software to automate, integrate, execute, analyze, and validate engineering models.
The SENIOR MBSE / Modeling & Simulation Engineer will independently solve complex modeling and software-integration problems, contribute to scenario-based mission analysis, and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
What You'll Do
• Develop and maintain system reference, baseline threat, and behavioral models using SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw.
• Design and develop software that supports modeling, simulation, system analysis, and MBSE workflows.
• Translate mission requirements, operational scenarios, and engineering data into structured system models and executable modeling solutions.
• Develop Python and other software utilities, scripts, services, and interfaces that automate model creation, transformation, analysis, verification, and validation.
• Integrate MBSE models with modeling and simulation environments, analytical tools, and engineering data sources, including behavioral integration with physics-based and mission-level models.
• Design interfaces and APIs supporting data exchange among MBSE, simulation, and analytical environments.
• Perform system, mission, and scenario analysis in support of campaign planning and wargaming.
• Apply software engineering practices to improve model repeatability, automation, configuration management, testing, and scalability.
• Perform model and software verification and validation, and identify assumptions, dependencies, gaps, technical limitations, and integration risks.
• Lead complex model development activities and technical model reviews.
• Develop technical documentation, engineering analyses, and customer briefings.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level MBSE and software engineers.
What You'll Bring
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline with 10 or more years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline with 5 or more years of relevant experience.
• Strong systems engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering foundation.
• Hands-on experience with SysML and MBSE tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw or comparable environments.
• Strong software engineering and programming experience, with proficiency in one or more languages such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Experience developing software for modeling, simulation, engineering analysis, automation, or data processing.
• Experience integrating engineering models, software, simulation environments, APIs, and data sources.
• Understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, APIs, data structures, testing, and source control.
• Ability to translate engineering and mission requirements into both system models and software implementations.
• Demonstrated ability to guide the technical work of less experienced engineers.
• Strong technical writing, communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in the Dayton / Wright-Patterson AFB area.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced practical experience with SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw.
• Python experience supporting MBSE and modeling automation and engineering analysis.
• Experience with AFSIM, NGTS, ArcGIS, or comparable modeling and simulation environments.
• Experience developing APIs or software interfaces between engineering and modeling tools.
• Experience with model transformations, model data extraction, or programmatic manipulation of engineering models.
• Familiarity with databases and structured engineering and model data.
• Experience with Git/GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing, DevSecOps, or containerized applications.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques applied to engineering, modeling, or intelligence analysis.
• Previous DoD or Intelligence Community Scientific and Technical Intelligence experience, including NASIC/NSIC or related missions.
Security Clearance
An active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain access to the customer facility in the Dayton, Ohio / Wright-Patterson AFB area.
